Position:

The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant Professor position in the area of Computer Science Education and Learning Sciences beginning August 2020.

 

Qualifications:

PhD, or comparable terminal degree in Computer Science Education, Computer Science with an emphasis in CS education, Learning Sciences, or a related field. Established record of scholarly publications and potential to obtain external funding. Expertise in secondary or undergraduate computer science education, with demonstrated excellence in teaching computer science courses.

 

Responsibilities:

The candidate will have the opportunity to lead a new undergraduate degree program in computer science and mathematics secondary education, to be launched in Fall 2020. As such, candidates will be expected to teach courses, manage program development, conduct computer science education research, and advise doctoral students. The candidate will also be expected to collaborate with other teacher preparation programs at Towson University, supervise field experiences, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

 

Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS):

The Department offers six primary programs including: an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, and an ABET-accredited cybersecurity program, a Bachelorof Science degree in Information Systems, a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology, a Master of Science degree in Computer Science, a Master of Science in Applied Information Technology, and a Doctor of Science degree in Information Technology. The Department of Computer and Information Sciences has approximately 43 full-time faculty members, 7 staff members, collectively over 1,700 undergraduate majors in the Computer Science, Information Systems, and Information Technology programs, and approximately 400 graduate students. The Department is placed within the Fisher College of Science and Mathematics. With more than 3,600 undergraduates, 34% of whom are minority students, the Fisher College of Science and Mathematics is one of the fastest growing and most diverse colleges at Towson University. Also within the Fisher College, Towson UTeach, Maryland’s leader in STEM teacher education, offers an innovative, field intensive program for undergraduates in secondary science and mathematics education.
