The College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at Eastern Washington University (EWU) invites applications for one full-time faculty position to teach Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Technology in the Department of Engineering & Design to begin September 2020. Appointment rank will be either as tenure track Assistant Professor (preferred appointment rank) or Lecturer, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Eastern Washington University is a midsize regional, comprehensive institution offering high-quality liberal arts and professional undergraduate and graduate programs in Cheney, Spokane, and elsewhere in Washington State. The Spokane metropolitan area is home to over 400,000 diverse residents and offers great four-season outdoor recreational opportunities and a vibrant arts and cultural community. We have 12 faculty in the Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) and roughly 350 undergraduate students. EWU is one of the most culturally and economically diverse universities in the state of Washington and recently won a Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award. Approximately one third of the students are multicultural and half are first generation to college.

We are seeking broadly trained candidates who will be inspirational teachers, role models, and mentors who complement the strengths of our faculty to engage in instructionally-intensive undergraduate programs including distance teaching. Primary areas of responsibility include teaching undergraduate ME and MET courses (including some taken by our BS Technology students). All faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning in these ABET-accredited programs. Faculty responsibilities for tenure track positions include engaging in scholarly activity/industrial outreach, curriculum development, and professional service.

Successful candidates will have a completed advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (PhD required for appointment as Assistant Professor), and preferably have at least one year of college teaching experience. Candidates with expertise in advanced manufacturing technology including robotics and automation are particularly encouraged to apply. Significant successful prior college teaching experience, professional licensure, and relevant industrial experience are preferred. Candidates pursuing appointment as a tenure track Assistant Professor must offer demonstrated ability to publish work in the technical literature, and the desire to pursue external funding. The successful candidate must have a strong interest in teaching undergraduate Engineering courses, and excellent communication skills to meet the needs of our diverse student body.

This position is open until further notice; screening of applications will begin February 24, 2020. To be assured full consideration, your application must be submitted by that date.
