Position Purpose

The Experiential Learning Coordinator develops and oversees implementation of key student experiential learning and community building programs for the Irving Institute for Energy & Society (IIES). In this role, the Experiential Learning Coordinator plays a critical role in building co-curricular programs, in mentoring student leaders, and in relationship building and collaboration with partners at Dartmouth and beyond.

The Experiential Learning Coordinator helps identify, organize, and prioritize student and community learning opportunities including workshops, bootcamps, projects, and other events. The Coordinator is a key liaison with the student-led Dartmouth Energy Alliance and with organizational partners including the Office of Sustainability, the Revers Center for Energy at Tuck, and the Thayer School of Engineering. The Coordinator manages logistics and supports communications for all co-curricular programming including planning, catering and space reservation, advertising and recruitment, event staffing, and post-event evaluation.

The Coordinator will play a critical role in supporting the planning and execution of collaborative programs with the Dartmouth Sustainability Office, including the Energy & Sustainability Careers Program (including alumni ambassador and senior leadership program elements), Energy Horizons, Energy 101, and Energy Immersion trips. The Coordinator will work closely with staff in the Dartmouth Sustainability Office to help develop program timelines, coordinate with faculty, staff & guest speakers, conduct outreach to students, and help select participants.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities
  • Plans and executes Irving Institute experiential learning activities: Manages student mini-grant program, including selection process and reporting on completed grant activities; coordinates energy and society internship opportunity identification and information sharing, including liaising with select alumni and Dartmouth Center for Professional Development; coordinates with alumni and other experts to identify, plan, and implement variety of energy and society learning experiences; coordinates with IIES and partner staff to identify and curate portfolio of hands-on projects, and assist student groups, faculty, and various units across campus to pursue those projects to achieve student learning and improved energy management goals. 60%
  • Supports execution of partner programs for students: Coordinates with Office of Sustainability to support implementation of Energy & Sustainability Careers program, including Alumni Ambassadors, Senior Leadership Program, and website. This includes regular events, website maintenance, relationships with key campus partners, and outreach to increase program use and effectiveness; coordinates with Office of Sustainability to support the Energy Horizons and Energy Immersion Trips Programs including outreach to students, coordinating speakers, field trips, and site visits, organizing orientation/preparation activities and community building initiatives. Uses strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and work collaboratively with key campus partners in support of the above initiatives. 30%
  • Support energy student community: Coordinates with student-led Dartmouth Energy Alliance to support effective implementation of student projects by providing guidance and mentorship as necessary; develops programs and events to build cohesion and collaboration across energy & society student community. 10%
