The New York City Economic Development Corporation's (NYCEDC) Capital Division (CAP) is responsible for design and construction of a wide variety of projects throughout the five boroughs of New York City.

NYCEDC is searching for an Executive Vice President (EVP) to lead the talented and energetic staff of CAP to deliver critical construction projects that support stronger neighborhoods, increase the city's resiliency and sustainability, create good jobs, and improve services for all New Yorkers.

Your Role:
As the Executive Vice President, you will oversee and direct the activities of the division, and report directly to the Director of Project Implementation in the corporation's President's Office. You are ultimately responsible for ensuring that the wide array of projects managed by CAP are delivered on time and on budget.

CAP's portfolio consists of more than 200 active projects with a contract value of approximately $4 billion, including terminals and piers, waterfront esplanades, parks, streetscape and pedestrian improvements, heavy infrastructure and an array of building types including hospitals, recreational and cultural facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Construction Management
  • Lead a department of approximately 35 design and construction professionals including engineers, architects, urban planners and other specialties, and direct the implementation of 200+ projects with an approximate portfolio value of $4 billion.
  • Advocate for continuous improvement to project delivery systems and improvement to integral project processes
  • Provide guidance to senior leadership regarding major projects
  • Liaise directly with president and senior level staff at related City, State and Federal agencies as well as with private developers and design and construction firms
  • Anticipate regulatory processes and critical path items to ensure timely progress
  • Represent NYCEDC at professional and public forums

Leadership & Collaboration
  • Align staff and departmental goals with NYCEDC's overall strategic mission
  • Delegate and assign work as appropriate to employees' capabilities and NYCEDC needs
  • Monitor performance, provide coaching and feedback to staff on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure all employees are oriented to their position and provided with appropriate training development and continuing education
  • Promote employee satisfaction and take necessary action to maintain a productive and motivated staff
  • Communicate effectively and inclusively at all levels of the organization

Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, City Planning, or Construction Management
  • 10+ years of professional design and construction management experience and progressively responsible managerial experience in government, design and construction management, or real estate development sectors
  • Professionally licensed in New York State as an Architect, Landscape Architect, or Engineer
  • Very strong written and oral communication skills along with strong presentation and public speaking abilities
  • Significant project management experience on complex large-scale construction projects
  • Ability to solve problems and respond to urgent issues and emergencies by mobilizing and directing appropriate resources
  • Comfortable working effectively in an atmosphere of rapidly changing priorities
  • Familiarity with the NYC construction industry, its practices, regulatory process, methods and unique challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of design and construction professionals across a variety of disciplines
