Position Purpose

To develop, foster, and provide leadership to the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center (FNCCC) and to serve as a leader in the NCCC development team. To plan, organize, and direct the execution of programs and projects to achieve the FNCCC's mission and short- and long-range objectives, specifically, to increase dollars raised from local, regional, and national constituency and awareness of Norris Cotton Cancer Center and its initiatives. Plans and directs the annual Prouty and Ultimate Prouty to effectively manage the growth of this important Dartmouth and community event. Directs and oversees the broad scope of all FNCCC activities and events and personally assures that the highest level of quality is reflected.

The Prouty and Ultimate Prouty (the Prouty) (30%)

  • Plans and directs the annual Prouty, including strategic planning and management of all event systems and logistics. Oversees all operational elements, fiscal management, and personnel resources related to the Prouty. Evaluates site management and site logistics components to create responsive, flexible systems that make best use of the available site. Manages and fosters the planning and implementation functions of the Prouty Steering Committee.
  • Solicits corporate sponsors for the Prouty and nurtures corporate relationships toward substantive growth. Determines and administers appropriate incentives to attract corporate sponsorships for the Prouty. Maintains collaborative relationship with the Joint Development Office to determine appropriate sponsor targets.
  • Develops and implements communications and marketing around the Prouty that inform and foster confidence in all Prouty stakeholders: participants, donors, volunteers, sponsors, and communities. Develops appropriate media approaches to marketing the Prouty and develops and disseminates effective collateral materials that reflect the quality of the event. Collaborates with the NCCC Director of Communications and JDO communications to ensure compatibility and collaboration of marketing and public relations messaging.

Leadership for the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center (20%)

  • Determines, guides, and directs the activities of the Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center toward the goal of developing critical community engagement and financial support for the Cancer Center. Participates in goal setting and strategic planning and initiates projects/programs in response to identified needs.
  • Analyzes complex issues related to major event management and strategic planning to meet Friends goals. In collaboration with the Director of Development, develops and monitors the budgets that support the Friends and Friends events. In collaboration with the Executive Director Advancement Administration, determines and implements appropriate information systems to interface with Advancement's database systems.
  • Assists and guides the volunteer Friends Board of Trustees in the development of fundraising initiatives and the identification of potential donors. Leads the Board in the preparation of an annual operating plan for the management and growth of the Friends. Plans and organizes meetings in response to the needs/plans of the FNCCC , ensures follow up on all commitments made, and facilitates their accomplishment. Engages in strategic planning with the Executive Committee of the Cancer Center and the Friends Board to determine opportunities for regional expansion of the Friends.

Coordinated Development/ FNCCC Fundraising (20%)

  • In collaboration with the NCCC Director of Communications and the JDO , integrates FNCCC initiatives with those of the Development Office to produce coordinated fundraising appeals and related events. Attends Development Office meetings. Identifies and cultivates donors for NCCC / FNCCC major gift programs. Identifies, develops, and pursues leads for FNCCC funding opportunities from corporate entities. Determines natural partners for facilitating gifts and implements plan of action leading to support in collaboration with the Director of Development and the JDO . Ensures ongoing coordinated stewardship of FNCCC constituents, donors, and fundraising prospects.
  • Identifies duplication of established D-H/ GSM events or duplication of solicitation effort and encourages collaboration and/or joint activities.

Community Fundraising (10%)

  • Directs and coordinates community fundraising efforts for the FNCCC in partnership with the Director of Development and in collaboration with the JDO . Evaluates and determines level of support for regional events based upon community commitment, FNCCC resources, and potential for the event to both grow and positively reflect the quality of Norris Cotton Cancer Center. Serves as FNCCC representative to these community groups, where possible, and ensures appropriate administrative support for regional events sponsored by community organizations and individuals.
  • Evaluates and implements new fundraising activities or events that will provide the best return in contributions, prioritizing according to established decision protocol. Solicits corporate sponsors for events, as appropriate, and nurtures corporate relationships. Collaborates with the NCCC Director of Communications in promoting community events.

Coordination/Communication/Information (10%)

  • Serves as a liaison for the FNCCC with GSM /D-H departments, development offices, physicians, educators, patients, community groups and organizations, donors, and the public for the purposes of promoting Friends activities and the mission of NCCC .
  • Originates and distributes FNCCC communications that reflect the quality and goals of the FNCCC and the NCCC . Makes presentations to community groups and organizations to build recognition of and support for the NCCC . Attends training programs and conferences to keep current on nonprofit fundraising ideas, tools, and trends.

Staff Development (10%)

  • Manages the FNCCC office and determines, with the Director of Development, efficient levels of FNCCC staffing to support a growing organization. Supervises FNCCC staff in providing broad-based support for the activities of the FNCCC . Develops, maintains, and supervises volunteer networks to support each event managed.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Director of Advancement Administrative to coordinate services of Administrative staff critical to achieving FNCCC goals.
