The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is where the power of art engages the spirit of community. The museum is seeking an experienced Event Planner to join our dynamic Event Planning team. 


 


ROLE: Reporting to the Manager, Earned Income, the Event Planner supports the goals of the Museum and the Event Planning department by producing events from conception through completion for both internal and external clients. Ensures the delivery of excellent customer service and timely follow up.


 


This role demands an expert in all aspects of event planning, including cost containment, venue and equipment logistics, room setup, relationship building and a wealth of best practices. This position is challenged by a high degree of relationship management, complexity of wedding events, variety of events, varied schedule that includes nights and weekends and a fast-paced environment.  Activities must be aligned with working inside an art museum and the limitations that are imposed by protection and care of art.


 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Bachelors degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • One to three years of event experience, preferably planning upscale events such as wedding ceremonies, receptions, corporate and other social occasions.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Strong attention to detail with excellent multi-tasking abilities.

  • The ability to adapt to changing event details with patience and creativity.

  • The ability to think on your feet and problem solve with little notice.

  • The ability to work flexible schedule which includes after hours (evenings) and weekends.

  • The ability to work positively with a variety of constituents from diverse backgrounds including patrons, donors, internal and external customers.

  • Possess excellent diplomacy and leadership skills and the ability to collaborate with and motivate a larger event team in order to meet quality expectations.




Physical Demands



While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently move hands and fingers repetitively while typing or writing. Occasionally required to stand; walk (traverse from one location to another) sit at a desk for extended periods; reach with hands and arms. May occasionally lift up to 20 lbs. The employee will occasionally travel to and from the museum to local locations for meetings and events.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
