Our products and technologies have become integral parts of numerous mission-critical equipment, from life-saving MRI and CT scanners to energy-efficient building HVAC systems to weather and telecommunications satellites.

Position summary:

The Engineering Technician has the unique responsibility for bringing early-stage engineering designs to life through prototype fabrication and testing. This position is very hands-on and requires a solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and advanced fabrication techniques. The fast-paced nature of cutting edge, innovative product design means that some tasks that the Engineering Technician is asked to perform have either never been attempted before or not attempted under the same constraints. This means that the Engineering Technician is often asked to complete tasks in a short period of time with little, or incomplete information being provided. This requires close communication between the Project Engineer and the Engineering Technician in order to come up with solutions to challenging problems.

The Engineering Technician is a true problem solver with an innovative spirit and a high attention to detail. Responsibilities beyond physical construction include working with engineers to develop the best approach for fabrication (i.e design for manufacturability), interpretation of engineering drawings and procedures, measurement sensor installation and data acquisition setup, test plan development and testing safety reviews, working with vendors to source components and hardware necessary to fabricate the prototype system, and fabrication schedule management.

Performance Metrics Include

  • On Time Delivery

  • Quality of Deliverable Hardware Measured by the Number of RMAs

  • Zero Safety Incidents

Minimum requirements include:

  • Certificate from a technical school or a minimum of 3 years of related experience

  • Ability to braze, solder, and weld materials like Copper, Aluminum, Stainless Steel, and high Nickel alloy materials (e.g. Haynes, Inconel)

  • Ability to operate hand tools (drills, drivers, etc.) and basic shop tools (press, mill, lathe, etc.)

  • High attention to detail and ability to maintain a clean working space

  • Maintain an effective working pace to help the team complete projects on-time

  • Ability to stay flexible and easily redirect efforts in a fast pace R&D environment

  • Hands-on fabrication and troubleshooting of assembly processes and test stands

  • Ability to contribute to problem-solving for product and prototype manufacturing

  • Detailed note taking of assembly steps and testing records

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:

  • Initiative: Engineering Technicians don't always have a daily agenda given to them and are expected to take it upon themselves to work closely with project Engineers, vendors and other ACT personnel to fulfill projects goals and objectives.

  • Teamwork skills: As a member of the product development team, the ideal candidate must have the ability to give and receive encouragement and constructive criticism, communicate effectively, and work cooperatively with team members to achieve common goals.

  • Critical thinking skills: The product development customer and projects vary widely, and the strategies and design approaches that worked for one program may be completely different for the next opportunity.  Because of that, we need a curious individual who loves to dive in, experiment, and develop innovative solutions to new challenges.

  • Desire to grow: The ideal candidate wants to be the best at their job and is never content with "good enough". They set lofty goals and constantly seek to improve themselves and expand their professional knowledge and skillset. They desire to sharpen their technical skills and grow in leadership ability and responsibility.

  • Technical knowledge: We are looking for a candidate who has a strong technical background, coupled with hands-on skills and fabrication and testing capabilities.

ACT is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, status as a protected veteran, status as a qualified individual with a disability, or any other trait protected by law.  We use E-verify.
