We are seeking an engineer to join our Global Product Compliance team to ensure MSAs life-saving products meet global safety and regulatory requirements. MSA is the global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of sophisticated, innovative safety products that protect people and facility infrastructures. Responsibilities

This position reports to the Global Engineering Manager, Product Compliance and will be responsible for the following:

  • Be the subject matter expert for regulatory compliance of intentional radiators related to MSA wireless products
  • Advise of compliance requirements based on intended country of sale and for networked products, potential carrier requirements as well
  • Analyze and interpret compliance requirements from multiple sources, with consideration for regional and carrier differences. Effectively communicate with internal teams to guide the development scope of compliant innovative products incorporating wireless technologies. Be accountable for ensuring product designs meet global, agency, standards, regulatory, and carrier requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date on new and changing wireless compliance requirements, as well as technological advancements related to wireless product technologies. Actively participate in relevant manufacturing and trade associations or other external networks as needed
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure timely submission of deliverables to third parties
  • Work directly with external parties, such as government agencies, testing laboratories, and certification bodies to obtain necessary registrations, certifications, and other market-entry requirements
  • Contribute to the alignment of marketing, engineering, and compliance activities on assigned projects and/or product groups. Actively educate the engineering and business team on critical compliance requirements for new and existing products.
  • Work closely with relevant internal and external stakeholders such as chipset vendors, HW design, Product design, and antenna engineers, to support the development of global compliance wireless technology test plans and comprehensive test strategies to evaluate them. Efficiently manage and optimize multiple concurrent testing plans
  • Work closely with engineering teams as well as third party laboratories to prepare samples, test, and validate MSA wireless products. Troubleshoot and make recommendations on product corrections, or develop technical explanations, for any issues that may arise throughout the certification processes.
  • Review compliance impact of new and modified designs, including review and recommendations related to engineering documentation submitted to third parties.
  • Assist in maintaining certifications and compliance by ensuring product modifications are compliant and approved.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement in processes and tools related to obtaining and managing wireless compliance
  • Provide support to all certification and department related activities regardless of product group, which may include but is not limited to third party audits, production line requirements, and customer service
  • Travel (Domestic & International) <5% required



Qualifications

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal and presentation). Able to effectively communicate technical information to audiences of all levels, including management and external stakeholder
  • Excellent project management skills a must. Proven ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects, including changes in scope and priority
  • Highly motivated and self-directed. Ability to perform complex tasks/assignments with limited supervision
  • Detail oriented, organized, with demonstrated analytical problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to work independently and in a team environment with multiple teams and challenging schedules
  • Basic understating of Antennae performance parameters
  • Familiarity with OTA Testing requirements
  • Expert knowledge of RED directives, or similar, and familiarity with LVD/EMC
  • Knowledge of wireless infrastructure architectures and communications protocols
  • Proven ability to navigate/interpret ambiguity of standards and regulations
  • Thorough knowledge of FCC licensing requirements
  • Familiarity with wireless technologies used for: Personal Area network, Wide area, Local area networks

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Knowledge of international telecommunications regulations and standards.
  • Thorough understanding of wide area network requirements
  • Deep understanding of several wireless technologies such as: LTE, WLAN, NFC, NR, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax, RFID, Bluetooth, GNSS, 4G, mmW, SIM/eSIM
  • Expert knowledge of relevant industry technical standards

Education and Experience Required:

  • BSEE or relevant discipline, preferably from an ABET accredited program.
  • Hands-on experience with testing protocols and equipment relevant for certification of wireless technologies, including troubleshooting/debugging techniques to analyze and resolve compliance issues, specifically HW/SW evaluation
  • Experience in certifying product with FCC(CFR), ISED Canada (RSS) and/or the EU(ETSI);
  • Experience with RF conducted and antenna OTA performance impact on product certification and conformance

Preferred:

  • Experience in certifying wireless products in a broad number of countries with various international certifications/registrations and local country-specific requirements
  • Experience certifying wireless product in the Middle East and/or South America

This position is available at three different career levels based upon experience, education, etc.:

  • Level one (Staff III Engineer): Minimum 3 years relevant experience
  • Level two (Senior Staff Engineer): Minimum 5 years relevant experience
  • Level three (Principal Engineer I): Minimum 7 years relevant experience
  • MS degree may be substituted for up to 2 years of relevant experience
