The Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Manager will drive outstanding EHSS performance across the site in a diverse biotech/pharma environment. This role will be responsible for the execution of key EHSS processes including:
  • Continuous improvement of industrial hygiene (IH) and ergonomics site wide
  • Trending and analysis of EHSS information to provide data intelligence and actions
  • Provide Industrial Hygiene and ergonomic support for new site facilities and projects as part of EHS Design Review
  • Provide subject matter expertise for several EHSS programs including IH, ergonomics and contractor safety

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Support laboratory and/or manufacturing clients with input from other EHSS specialists at the site and from within the Amgen R&D and Manufacturing community
  • Partner with clients to advance safety culture and lead EHSS risks
  • Analyze program metrics and establish annual action plans to drive continuous improvement
  • Establish and execute risk assessment plans for clients to ensure all risks are proactively addressed and control systems are implemented and maintained
  • Ensure all changes with potential EHSS impact are assessed and controls are established prior to implementation
  • Ensure all hazards are identified and risks are proactively assessed
  • Establish safe work procedures for hazardous work
  • Conduct regular inspections of the work areas
  • Lead all aspects of incident trends and assist management in conducting incident investigations to implement robust corrective actions to prevent future incidents and injuries
  • Conduct regular EHSS management reviews with Client Leadership

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree


Master's degree and 3 years of EHSS supporting industrial hygiene experience


Bachelor's degree and 5 years of EHSS supporting industrial hygiene experience


Associate's degree and 10 years of EHSS supporting industrial hygiene experience


High school diploma / GED and 12 years of EHSS supporting industrial hygiene experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 years experience in industrial hygiene
  • Safety experience in research environments
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Strong understanding of chemical and biological manufacturing and laboratory operations
  • Knowledgeable in office, industrial and laboratory ergonomics
  • Experience implementing and supporting industrial hygiene and ergonomic programs
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and influence management
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, action oriented, self-starting, program development and project management
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software systems
