Director Product Design (Platform Governance)

Amgen is seeking a Director at its main headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA to join the Platform Governance team. As a member of the Platform Governance organization, the Director's work will focus on improving patient interaction with our therapies. The scope of design opportunities would include devices such as pen injectors, packaging components, and associated services. The qualified candidate will ensure successful identification of key features related to these services, while ensuring that the technologies improve the patient experience for Amgen's therapies. The Director will lead a team and ensure close collaboration with cross-functional team members and business stakeholders. Furthermore, the Director will engage directly with Amgen patients to best understand their experience.

Position Responsibilities include:
  • Generate brand-specific patient selected feature sets
  • Serve as primary contact between Amgen patients and design teams
  • Responsible for design strategy and coordination within the Organization
  • Identification and communication of opportunities for entry into development and commercialization
  • Work with Amgen's partners in the evaluation of device, digital, diagnostics, and ancillary technologies
  • Responsible for identification and traceability of recommendations to brand teams


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of design experience

OR

Master's degree and 8 years of design experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 10 years of design experience

AND

4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Industrial Engineering or related discipline
  • Demonstrated success in leading high performing teams
  • 2+ years' current experience in design of pharmaceutical or medical products development from concept through clinical introduction and commercialization
  • Demonstrated understanding of pharmaceutical or medical products regulations
  • Demonstrated skill in patient interaction or other situations carrying similar discretion
  • Demonstrated success in leadership and influencing cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated skill in management of external design, development, and design partners
  • Experience with Stanford D-school or similar methodologies
  • Working knowledge of strategic business considerations
  • Strong decision making and organizational skills
  • Superior written and verbal skills in communication of product features
  • Capable of working on multiple projects in a deadline driven environment
