Position Summary:

Lead corporate advocacy interface with select national patient advocacy groups and select national medical societies to advance ACADIAs business objectives in current and future therapeutic areas, patient communities and geographies. Responsible for building a strategic plan for identifying and strengthening relationships, developing partnerships, collaborations and continuing to position ACADIA as a thought leader and valued partner with patient and medical communities through active engagement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Represents the company and acts as its liaison with national industry associations and national patient advocacy groups; attends trade and professional meetings important to the companys success. Examples include but are not limited to AAGP (American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry) and CNF (Child Neurology Foundation).
  • Provides strategic input to optimize patient outcomes in all phases of the product life cycle.
  • Work with counter parts within various industry partners for coordination to ensure open communications and alignment on goals, strategies and execution.
  • Identifies and cultivates relationships with key stakeholders and organizations that are essential to achieving business objectives.
  • Contributes to the development of strategic plans for assigned national patient advocacy and medical societies and overseas the successful implementation that is aligned with company business strategy, plans, annual budgets and business reviews.
  • Manage annual budget and forecasting for patient advocacy and engagement activities.
  • Create and bring forward innovative approaches to partnering with patient advocacy groups in areas of strategic alignment.
  • Champion the patient and medical professional voice and experience with key internal stakeholders.
  • Overseas company sponsored patient advocacy events and forums to appropriately engage ACADIA employees to understand the special needs of patient groups.
  • Monitors competitive activity and identifies industry trends.
  • Interfaces with medical affairs to ensure coordination with KOL, advisory and medical education activities.
  • Ensure cross functional collaboration and input with R&D, medical affairs, government affairs, commercial, market access, market development and other key stakeholders to optimally manage relationships to ensure alignment and effective execution of patient advocacy and medical society strategy.
  • Represents the patient voice in current and potential future life cycle indications including but not limited to Parkinsons disease, Dementia, Major Depressive Disorder, Schizophrenia and Rett Syndrome.
  • Interfaces with Investor Relations/Corporate Communications to ensure alignment with company milestones, disclosures and external product messaging.
  • Serves as a representative of the organization to both internal and external groups and ensures information communicated is accurate and up to date regarding organizational activities and industry trends.
  • Stays current of new developments and ideas in the field of advocacy relations and incorporates such developments, ideas and strategies into the development and execution of programs.
  • Ensures departments adherence to company policies and quality system requirements, as well as other legal and regulatory directives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in marketing, healthcare, science, business administration or related degrees, a combination of relevant education and applicable job experience may be considered.
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible biopharmaceutical medical affairs or related marketing experience developing and shaping markets by leading teams, with a minimum of 5 years in a management role.
  • Demonstrated experience and relationships with advocacy communities.
  • Additional experience includes key opinion leader management, branding, product positioning, market research and risk assessment.
  • Recent Neuroscience therapeutic experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous pharmaceutical medical science liaison or sales experience highly desired.

Must possess:

  • Understanding of Rare Disease and Specialty Biopharmaceutical Distribution including academic medical centers, hospital systems and long term care.
  • Proven skill at negotiating with business partners or management and influencing senior level leaders regarding matters of significant in a matrix organization.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English in verbal, written and presentation form.
  • Advanced PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office Systems
  • Ability to travel by car, train or airplane independently overnight up to 50% of the time and work after hours if required by travel schedule or business issues.

Scope:

Establishes strategic plans for designated functions and participates with others in management to align objectives across the organization. Develops methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects and programs. Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of functional area and related organizational objectives.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, see, talk or hear in a standard office environment and independently from remote locations. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Ability to travel by car or airplane independently overnight up to 50% of the time and work after hours if required by travel schedules or business issues.
