Job Title: Director of Product Planning (storage networking and security)

Our San Jose based Storage Pathfinding Team works on innovative SSD products for Samsungs Device Solutions business. We are looking for a new team member to plan and program manage security and manageability related activities for Samsungs fabric-attached storage devices. Working as an individual contributor, this person will coordinate Samsungs compliance with relevant storage security standards from SNIA, TCG, NIST and OCP, as well as Samsungs participation in key security initiatives of our large customers. Primary responsibility will be defining and driving strategies for complying with these standards and processes as they pertain to Samsungs NAND/SSD products, mainly for datacenter and edge applications. The individual will be leading activities such as sensing and documenting threat models and approaches, determining product requirements, sensing and aligning to timeframes for adoption, setting feature priorities, surveying available IPs, and facilitating ecosystem activities. Due to the growing trend toward disaggregated storage, data-at-rest security considerations will need to be considered in the context of control plane. End-to-end security considerations will warrant encryption of data-in-flight not just data at rest. End to end performance considerations will warrant strong understanding high-performance datacenter fabrics, protocols and interfaces, as well as details of congestion management and flow control, for TCP, RoCE, and IB, especially as these protocols start to carry NVMeoF traffic, and supporting NVMes growing list of command sets.

  • Broadly, pathfinding activities including tracking of market and technology trends, sensing and reporting on key developments, and awareness of major principles and architectures.
  • Narrowly, exploration and enablement related to new product introduction, and technology adoption.
  • Leading Samsungs engagement in industry and customer initiatives related to fabric-connected and trusted storage.
  • Planning strategic objectives and developing new initiatives for NAND/SSD and other storage related industry standards.
  • Identifying new requirements and supporting product features for maximizing benefits from memory & storage devices and enabling key ecosystems.
  • Identifying strategic collaboration opportunity with various industry stakeholders in standard bodies to maximize product value proposition.
  • Evangelizing new standards and features for key customers and industry partners.
  • Providing security, networking and manageability expertise about industry standard for successful and timely enablement of Samsungs NAND/SSD products
  • Working simultaneously with US colleagues, Korean HQ, and customers for product planning and pathfinding.
  • Working with partners and customers (our and theirs) effectively, program managing, and evangelizing value propositions and championing investment of money, time and effort internally and externally.
  • Balancing near-term and long-term success, weekly reporting and presentation, presenting and participating in deep dives with engineers and architects before and during development, as well as up-leveling content for executive communication.


  • BS degree minimum , MS degree preferred
  • At least 10 years of combined experience in engineering, product management, business development and standardization related to data center networking or storage security
  • At least 2 years of experience leading and program managing cross-company technology work
  • Strong product/program management skills with proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Superb communication, negotiation and presentation skill with proven record
  • In-depth understanding and engineering experience in NAND or SSD products
  • First-hand experience with storage systems and devices, and related SW ecosystem
  • Protocol level understanding of RDMA, RoCEv2 networking along with up-to-date knowledge of congestion control mechanisms and best practices regarding port configuration
  • Architecture level understanding of FIPS and TCG certifications, RoT implementation, secure enclaves and key management
  • Storage networking and security technologies (such as fabric switches, NICs and SmartNICs) from Intel, Broadcom, Marvell, Nvidia, as well as SmartNIC and DPU vendors


  • Specific experience with ecosystem activities including cloud architects
  • Experience and solid understanding in large scale semiconductor production & operations
  • Direct/indirect working experience with storage OEMs and Hyper-Scale Datacenter is a plus
  • Prior work experience at major semiconductor company
  • Experience in company strategy development and long term planning
  • Proven track record in SNIA or NVM Express standardization activity
  • SNIA, IETF, TCG, OCP Networking, Cerberus or OpenTitan participation
  • Working knowledge of chassis-level and rack-level physical infrastructure management, SSD form factors and connectors, Network copper and optical interfaces (Serdes, Trasceivers), Switch OS, BMC, and I2C/I3C, etc.
  • Strong awareness of DMTF Redfish and Swordfish
  • Deep knowledge of Ethernet SSD, EBOF, and JBOF concepts
