Amgen Rhode Island is one of the largest drug substance manufacturing sites in the world with a large complex portfolio of commercial biologics! We are seeking a Director of Information Systems (IS)- RI Site Lead who will be responsible for leading the IS organization for our state-of-the-art Rhode Island facility.

This role will be accountable to the Vice President of Site Operations and Head of IS for Operations. The Director will play a key role in site leadership and overall Operations IS leadership team, helping the site evolve its business model to expand its portfolio of products.

As the Director you will provide leadership and, establish a future vision and clear goals and expectations to achieve that vision. Further, you will identify, lead and support initiatives to deliver site wide priorities as well as drive operational improvement strategies, share standard methodologies / lessons learned and partner with essential team members. You will also drive the portfolio process and required reporting metrics. This includes the creation of a portfolio management decentralized team and owning the creation and execution of IS vendor and alliance management strategies. Finally, the Director is an integral part of a diverse site leadership team, driving the evolution of our data strategy to ensure a best-in-class operation with a high degree of reliability and efficiency!

We are in the final stages of significantly expanding our Rhode Island manufacturing capacity through an additional plant with next-generation capabilities. The site has a high level of sensorics and automation providing a large daily data set to continuously generate predictive knowledge and insights.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the leader of the Information Systems Department, to plan, implement and support computer application solutions
  • Integrates quality and compliance management practices with the enterprise-wide computing system
  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of strategies for coordination of site installations of Amgen's corporate led computing systems
  • Creates collaborative relationships with corporate and remote site IS groups to harmonize practices and support
  • Hiring, mentors, develops, leads, and deploys hardworking information systems professionals to create innovative and effective information solutions
  • Serves as a resource to other functional areas in the appropriate and innovative use and management of information technology.
  • Develops and implements an overall information systems strategic plan for the Site bringing to bear the corporate Operations function strategy.
  • Understands current best in class and emerging technologies in software applications, cGMP compliant systems, infrastructure, cloud, data, advanced analytics, simulation & modeling, machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Pursues the newest technologies and assessing capabilities of existing and trending technologies for their application (advanced data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, Internet of things (IoT), modelling and simulation, Virtual and Augmented reality, advanced visions system etc. in coordination with corporate counterparts
  • Leads teams and groups through decision-making processes to drive to timely decisions taking into account appropriate analysis, data and critical information
  • Seeks opportunities to streamline processes, minimize bureaucracy and improve organizational structures to help build long-term capability for the organization
  • Cultivates an environment that drives creativity and innovation where individuals can think out of the box and take calculated risks
  • Provides coaching, performance management, career development and mentoring to staff across the organization


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of IS and/or automation experience

OR

Master's degree and 8 years of IS and/or automation experience

Or

Bachelor's degree and 10 years of IS and/or automation experience

And

4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 6 years of managing team members with demonstrated skills in staff engagement, coaching/mentoring and professional development
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and ability to set the context and present on complex subjects to senior management in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong leadership, influencing, project management, negotiation, planning, and organizational change skills
  • Experience working multi-functionally and building collaborative working relationships with Operations and IS senior and executive management to resolve issues
  • Ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity, ability to see the big picture, to enable relevant business analyses and facilitate decision-making
  • Results oriented, strong adherence to timelines
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing or Operational Excellence concepts
  • Demonstrates self-awareness and focuses on own development demonstrates ability to grow and to apply diversity in styles and approaches as a leader
