We are seeking a seasoned and hands-on Director of Facilities to direct the running of our facilities and create a safe and efficient work environment that improves business performance and optimizes staff productivity. Duties for the Director of Facilities will include directing facilities functions, implementing policies and safety procedures, engaging with vendors and contractors, minimizing hazards, preparing facilities budgets and monitoring expenditure, coordinating remodeling and refurbishment initiatives, testing equipment, forecasting space needs, ensuring compliance with zoning laws, coordinating relocations, and provide insight into the planning and design of both minor and major construction activities. Your skills in managing facilities and directing facilities functions will assist our organization in creating integrated spaces, minimizing disruptions to overall business operations, improving working conditions, and creating a safe and comfortable environment for faculty, staff and students. This position has oversight of all functions within the Facilities Services Department: trades, grounds, heating plant, custodial, etc.

The ideal candidate for this role should possess good communication skills, excellent organizational skills, broad knowledge of business functions, and project management experience. The outstanding Director of Facilities must understand the technical aspects of the property, support day to day business operations, ensure efficient operation of facilities, mitigate risk, and ensure that facilities meet the needs of the college.

Director of Facilities Services Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight and direction for all facilities services functions
  • Create both long-term and short-term goals for the department
  • Ensure proper management of all employees (not just direct reports) in accordance with State and University policies, including, but not limited to recruitment, training, work performance, termination, discipline, and performance evaluations.
  • Analyze and evaluate the work force needs and capabilities and implement/recommend changes as needed.
  • Perform building inspections to ensure all buildings are kept clean and up to industry standards
  • Responsible for building safety. Must maintain safety standards and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Provide oversight and direction for the operation and maintenance of the Building Management System.
  • Provide oversight and direction for the operation and maintenance of the Building Inventory and Work Order System.
  • Complete, or ensure the completion, of organizational surveys and reports both internal and external to the organization.
  • Ensure the training of staff on safety procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Ensure all work is completed correctly and in a timely fashion for all areas within the Facilities Department.
  • Work directly with Capital Construction to ensure continuity and coordination
  • Work with campus stakeholders and department heads on maintenance and operational concerns, building a climate of trust and respect
  • Provide document reviews and suggestions to improve construction projects during design and ensure oversight and continuous involvement during construction
  • Establish and maintain controls to assure that supplies, tools, equipment, and vehicles are properly maintained and have a an appropriate replacement schedule supported by operational budgets

  • Degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Architecture, Property Management, or related field.
  • 3 years of directly related full-time professional experience related to facilities management and/or project management
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
