Amgen is seeking a Director of Enterprise Data and Analytics at its main headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. The Director will report to the Executive Director of Enterprise Data and Analytics and will be responsible for day-to-day execution of strategic data projects including but not limited to, data governance, integration into existing functions and workflows, education of executives and staff, generation of new data projects and financial and strategic analysis of those projects in context of the existing project portfolio, etc.

The Director, internally known as the Director of Technology, Strategy and Innovation, reports into Digital Health and Innovation but has an enterprise-level technology responsibility to help product teams, functions and the enterprise identify challenges and potential data, analytics and technology solutions to improve the value of Amgen's medicines to patients and to the healthcare system.

Responsibilities of the Director of Enterprise Data and Analytics include:
  • Develops and executes data and analytics projects aligned with Amgen's vision and strategies that leverage data to drive significant value for patients
  • Acts as a trusted thought partner and provide guidance and recommendations on how data can be leveraged to answer questions and solve problems
  • Assists in driving a Data Culture at Amgen, including hiring and onboarding, initial and ongoing training, harmonized data governance and management, policy generation and enforcement, and monitoring and reporting of relevant performance metrics, etc.
  • Executes a harmonized data acquisition process, including frameworks for business case assumptions, prioritizing value with regards to strategy, risks, etc. as well as cross-functional decision-making processes
  • Assists in driving data process change at the senior leadership level; includes assisting with developing training materials and facilitating training sessions
  • Meets regularly with subject matter experts to develop a deep understanding of the business and business needs as it pertains to data efficiency and scaling methods
  • Anticipates data needs across the organization and sit with other functional leads to both answer critical strategic questions, problem solve and support all data complexities
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of industry best practices, technologies, architectures and emerging technologies -- along with their potential application to existing or future offerings
  • Develops operational metrics and report to management quarterly on key initiatives and process enhancements


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Technology and/or Data and/or Analytics experience
OR
Master's degree and 8 years of Technology and/or Data and/or Analytics experience
OR
Bachelor's degree and 10 years of Technology and/or Data and/or Analytics experience
AND
4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of analytics approaches in biopharma including descriptive and predictive analytics as well as primary research approaches in competitive intelligence, quantitative and qualitative market research
  • Strong passion for and a deep knowledge of healthcare data, platform analytics, data strategy, and product and engineering connection points driving Amgen's portfolio-level view of key technologies in support of its medicines
  • Strong capabilities in project management and problem solving, with a deep understanding of the technology and biopharma sectors
  • Broad familiarity across functional areas, including regulatory, marketing, discovery and development
  • Thinks strategically about issues impacting an entire portfolio of therapeutics across geographies and various stages of development
  • Views issues from multiple perspectives, is willing to compromise to achieve objectives, and is adept at resolving conflicts
  • Ability to translate complex data insights into actionable business recommendations
  • Oral, written and presentation skills to explain complex concepts and controversial findings clearly to a variety of audiences, including senior management
  • Experience managing multiple senior stakeholders, prioritizing across a multitude of responsibilities and allocating resources to drive impact
  • Self-starter with a desire to grow personally and professionally
