Program Director, Fulbright Foreign Student Program

The Director is responsible for independently managing private projects and is a key member of the 20-person unit charged with managing the Fulbright Foreign Student Program in the Middle East and North Africa.            




  • Supervise Fulbright staff in the successful performance of all job-related activities as outlined in cooperative agreements
  • Supervise placement, orientation, and advising of academic participants
  • Supervise Alumni programming and serve on review panel for Alumni grant awards
  • Supervise host institution recruitment and program implementation of Junior Faculty Development Program
  • Serve as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) on the U.S. Department of State Fulbright Exchange Visitor Program designation
  • Develop and monitor administrative and program budgets for each overall cooperative agreements, affiliated grants and MOUs and for sub-agreements
  • Develop and maintain operational systems for efficient program administration
  • Conduct staff training, development, hiring, and evaluation as needed
  • Develop project guidelines and procedures
  • Prepare required quarterly, semi-annual and final program reports
  • Review financial reports for Fulbright cooperative agreements, MOUs and grants
  • Communicate with State Department representatives, field offices, Fulbright Commissions and other agencies/institutions concerning program related matters, forwarding information and reports in response to taskers and ad hoc requests
  • Prepare requests for cooperative agreement extensions and modifications
  • Prepare proposals for cooperative agreement renewals
  • Supervise planning and administration of enrichment activities and workshops for Fulbright grantees
  • Assist in the development of new program activities
  • Participate in on-going evaluation of project and services
  • Represent AMIDEAST and the Fulbright Programs at conferences and in outreach activities
  • Contribute to AMIDEAST’s management and overall mission as part of department management team



  • BA with minimum of 10 years’ experience in international student programming or Master’s degree with at least 5 years’ experience in international student programming
  • Knowledge of J-1 exchange visitor program regulations, prior ARO experience required
  • Supervisory and/or team leadership experience
  • Experience monitoring and reporting for U.S. Department of State grants and/or cooperative agreements
  • Proposal and program budgeting experience
  • Experience with U.S. graduate admissions and student advising
  • Ability to maintain and organize a large amount of detailed information (ex: budgetary and student related information)
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel
