About the position:

The Deputy Director, Acceleration is a new role focused on helping to develop, manage, and grow JFF and JFFLabs emerging Impact Acceleration practice. The Deputy Director will report to and support the Managing Director, Acceleration at JFFLabs to build and implement a high-impact go-to-market accelerator that works closely with visionary stakeholders to define the toughest problems in workforce and education, and identify, implement, and scale mission-aligned solutions.

We are builders and innovators, driving progress in a start-up environment. The Deputy Director plays an important role in this environment and is helping to build something starting from the ground level. The position therefore requires a dynamic, agile leader who is comfortable across a wide variety of responsibilities, moving forward projects and bodies of work as both a manager and an individual contributor.


What you'll do:
  • Program Strategy: Work side-by-side with the Managing Director to chart, refine, and continuously improve an overarching strategy to maximize the impact of our Impact Acceleration work, including co-leading long- and short-range strategic planning, staffing/job design structures, and program budgets and finances, and supporting efforts to engage and enlist the support of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Impact Accelerator Management: Implement the strategic vision for JFFLabss signature Impact Accelerator.
  • Content Development: Conceive of, develop, and direct the production of highly-compelling original collateral i.e. case studies, briefs, frameworks, tools/resources, etc. that will drive awareness and action in the market.
  • Partnership Development: Build and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with leaders in our field. Help to devise and support a partnership strategy.
  • Business Development and Fundraising: In collaboration with the Managing Director, contribute to the execution of a business development/fundraising strategy. Project Management: Manage a variety of internal and external-facing projects, using a lean and agile approach.
  • People Management: Supervise direct reports as assigned, providing direct coaching, feedback, thought partnership, and performance management to support them in their success in their roles and at JFF.
  • Team Operations and Human Capital: Directly support the development and implementation of plans, systems, structures, norms, and resources to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our team and the way that we collaborate and drive impact through a matrixed team environment.
  • Meeting design, prep, and facilitation. Collaborating with and supporting the Managing Director on the development and facilitation of a range of meetings on short-and long-term projects.
  • Other duties as necessary.

Who you are:
  • You have a passion for helping workers advance and for leveling the playing field to create economic opportunity for all. You have worked on issues of economic advancement, education reform, and/or workforce development.
  • You have at 5+ years sales/and or fundraising experience, including demonstrated experience closing large deals and building client relationships.
  • You have substantive experience and familiarity with tech startups, digital transformation, and/or working with stakeholders to build buy-in for the power of technology to address societal challenges.
  • You have significant experience managing direct reports and teams, providing direct feedback, thought partnership, and performance management to support their success.
  • You model inclusive leadership, working effectively with diverse staff, and stewarding an organizational culture that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion, and an ability to apply JFFs core values to all areas of your work.
  • You are excellent at working both in teams and independently. You are able to supervise others and use your informal authority to get things done well in a matrixed work environment.
  • You have demonstrated ability to create, sustain, and grow demand for a visionary product or service. You create trust through your thought leadership and build authentic partnerships.
  • You are extremely strategic. You understand how decisions get made, you can take in multiple inputs at the same time, and you evaluate what choices are on the table in order to take action and chart a path forward. You are a seasoned project manager.
  • You believe deeply in the power of the private sector and technology to drive positive change in society. You have a demonstrated ability to influence companies to shift strategies and practices to drive positive change.
  • You understand how large organizations work and have an ability to quickly speak the language of different companies and/or large foundations.
  • You have excellent communication skills both written and spoken. You have the ability to persuasively and efficiently build and deliver presentations for senior executives. You are recognized as a dynamic facilitator and are able to conceive of and execute high-caliber meetings and sessions with clients and partners.
  • You have demonstrated entrepreneurial ability and are enthusiastic about exploring and testing new possibilities. You thrive in a start-up environment and are an agile problem-solver.
