American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), a membership organization dedicated to the advancement of women's health care in Washington, DC, is currently seeking a Data Specialist. This position serves as a facilitator between AIM team members, hospitals, state and hospital network team members engaged in data collection and transmission along with AIM Data Portal leadership to assure the accurate and smooth transition and translation of data and support to AIM participants, as needed. This is a 100% grant-funded position reporting to the AIM Program Director.


  • Assure the smooth transfer of structure, process, and outcome data related to severe maternal morbidity (SMM) and mortality from data sources to the AIM Data Portal.
  • Administratively coordinate and attend AIM Data Workgroup and data TA calls and activities.
  • Triage, manage, and/or refer any issues or concerns raised during the data collection and transmission process, including issues raised by AIM state program managers related to data within state and network teams and refer to appropriate resources as needed.
  • Apprise AIM leadership of data requests and concerns.
  • Project manage updated user-friendly tools related to AIM Data Portal use, in consultation with AIM Data Portal vendor, including data guides and short videos or slide programs to include step-by-step instructions.
  • With the support of AIM Data Analyst Consultant, AIM Data Portal vendor, and QI Implementation Director develop and generate quarterly and annual data reports including dashboards for benchmarking quality outcomes, as well as reporting to required entities.
  • Keep updated on coding changes with support from ACOG Health Economics and Practice Management department and inform AIM Data Analyst Consultant, AIM Data Portal vendor, and QI Implementation Director as needed.
  • Serve as liaison for AIM program staff and a primary point of contact to the AIM Data Analyst Consultant by triaging and referring appropriate questions from AIM program staff to the AIM Data Analyst Consultant.


  • Bachelors' degree, public health, healthcare administration, informatics, data science, or other relevant discipline preferred.
  • Experience in customer service and project management.
  • Experience in developing webinars and enduring PowerPoint presentations.
  • Strong attention to detail and writing skills.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to exercise independent judgment, prioritize and implement multiple projects, and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, sometimes overnight.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating medical or public health projects and outreach activities, and materials, particularly related to SMM.
  • Ability to organize and support a de-centralized team.
  • Knowledge of or training in hospital coding.
  • Public health/epidemiology, clinical quality improvement, or data management experience.
