Alfred State is now accepting applications for a coordinator who will play a key role in an institutional, multi-disciplinary, and cross-divisional effort designed to enhance applied learning (AL) initiatives across campus. Applied Learning is defined by the State University of New York (SUNY) as an "approach whereby students learn by engaging in direct application of skills, theories and models." Alfred State was the first SUNY institution to incorporate applied learning as an institutional student learning outcome and has identified it as a strategic priority. The Coordinator of Field Experiences, working with the Academic Affairs and Student Affairs divisions, will support efforts to enhance student success, build career competencies, support faculty and staff excellence, and expand community and regional impact.

This is a full-time, temporary position supported for two years by grant funding.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop reports on key applied learning metrics for assessment and marketing purposes
  • Help promote funding opportunities for faculty and staff related to special projects and strategic priorities
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to meet AL goals and enhance student field experiences
  • Support and train users in software solutions to streamline the internship management experience
  • Promote a digital badging platform designed to support student workforce and internship readiness
  • Design and deliver presentations and workshops for students and faculty members
  • Counsel students seeking an AL opportunity
  • Create a digital one-stop student resource center to support high impact field experiences
  • Support events or projects that showcase student, faculty, and staff accomplishments

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Familiarity with field placements, which may include internships, preceptorships, and practicums
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population
  • Demonstrated ability to work with faculty across disciplines
  • Experience working with and advising students
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • High proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years or more of work experience in a related field
  • Experience with career development and field placements
  • Master's Degree in a related field
