JOB SUMMARY

The Coordinator of Campus Recreation provides comprehensive administrative supervision over programming, personnel, budgets, risk management, recreational amenities and upkeep as well as certifications required to use such spaces. Through a number of student based resources and campus based amenities, the Coordinator will oversee the support of our Intramural and Club based initiatives and be designated for oversight of our campus recreational amenities such as the Climbing Wall, Ropes Course, Pioneer Trail, Pioneer Tubing Hill and our Outdoor Multipurpose Court. Campus Recreation is a part of the Student Affairs division at Alfred State and will directly report to the Director of Student Engagement.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Director of Student Engagement

Supervises: 12-15 Recreation Leaders

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Intramural Sports

  • Recruit, select, and train all student employees
  • Implementation of comprehensive Fall and Spring sports schedule
  • Oversight of facilities, amenities and playing areas for maintenance, preparation, safety and scheduling

Outdoor Recreation

  • Oversight of related equipment, to including inventory management, repair and replacement, check out processes, and liability waivers
  • Implementation of multiple excursion events each fall and spring semester
  • Administration of agreement with local climbing/bouldering center

Indoor Recreation

  • Oversight of the campus Rock Wall located in the Student Leadership Center.
  • Oversight of the ropes course located within the Student Leadership Center
  • Administration of agreement with local climbing/bouldering center

Club Sports

  • Serve as primary affinity advisor to all recreational club sports (currently Pioneer Woodsman, Archery and other non-intercollegiate competitive clubs)
  • Ensure implementation of annual schedule, league compliance and registration, and open recruitment
  • Connect and resource qualified coaches to existing and future Club sports teams
  • Work to increase club sport offerings in number of options and with special emphasis on seeking out women's opportunities

Secondary Functions

  • Budget oversight for all functional areas
  • Office oversight and supervision of related staff and scheduling
  • Assessment of offerings and student needs in all areas
  • Work with related departments and facility managers to obtain use of effective programming space
  • Policy and procedure review, implementation, and enforcement
  • Regular analysis of current program and service trends within field of Campus Recreation

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sport Management or appropriate related field.
  • Two years of experience in the promotion, design, development, and administration of recreational programs
  • Valid driver's license and/or ability to obtain valid driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of recreational equipment and the ability to maintain equipment inventory including procurement and rental operations.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing/facilitating a low ropes challenge course and/or indoor climbing wall.
  • Familiarity with inspecting facility for risk management or maintenance concerns and resolving problems independently prior to activity.
  • Current membership/involvement in one or more of the following professional organizations: ACCT, AEE, AMGA, AORE, NOLS, NIRSA, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in the training and supervision of student employees and volunteers to accomplish program operations.
  • Availability to work flexible schedule, evenings and weekends depending on activities being offered.
  • Ability to communicate proficiently both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with successful event management and/or coordination.
  • Possess American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor certification or must obtain within the first year of employment.
  • Current National Certification or equivalent in one of the following: ACCT Level 1 Challenge Course Practitioner; ACCT Level 2 Challenge Course Practitioner; ACCT Challenge Course Manager; AMGA Climbing Wall Instructor; PCIA Top Rope Climbing Instructor; and/or AMGA Single Pitch Instructor
  • Demonstrated experience using and maintaining a wide range of outdoor equipment as a component of a rental operation.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite 2010 or equivalent product.
