The Commercial Business Development Director, is a key role in the commercial licensing group within Global Product Strategy and Commercial Innovation organization. The Director is responsible for representing the commercial organization within a cross-functional deal team that identifies and assesses external opportunities. The Director will be the lead for oncology licensing projects, and also lead and/or support projects in other therapeutic areas (TAs). The Director will lead commercial assessments of licensing and business development opportunities, working closely with the Global Marketing TA Head, Franchise Strategy Committee, Product Teams, Regional Business Units, and Corporate Strategy & Business Development. He/She will coordinate the evaluation of opportunities across the commercial organizations by: assessing strategic fit, developing key insights through desk research, market research, and opinion leader/HCP interviews; leading a commercial sub-team to develop robust commercial assessments of licensing candidates and companies; and building alignment and provide 'one commercial voice' in support of licensing opportunities.

Key responsibilities include:

Support Identification of External Opportunities

• Partner with the Franchise Strategy Committee, Business Units & Regions, and Corporate Strategy & Business Development, to identify and evaluate business development opportunities based on TA Strategy

• Provide commercial view at monthly/bimonthly Licensing Evaluation Team meetings

• Present and provide clear assumption-based recommendations for business opportunities within Global Marketing and other functional areas, together with the Global TA Head/General Manager

Lead Commercial Assessment of External Opportunities

• Be the primary lead for commercial licensing opportunities within the Oncology Therapeutic Areas with additional responsibilities of leading or supporting projects in other TAs
• Lead and manage the development of commercial assessments, including regional forecasts where appropriate
• Partner closely with appropriate functions to provide commercial assessments, reflecting deep understanding of disease area, unmet need, TPP, market situation analysis and evolution, competitive landscape and lifecycle programs

• Collaborate with Data Analytics and Insights, Global Value & Access, Center for Observational Research, Clinical R&D, Global Regulatory Affairs & Safety, Finance and other functions to develop key inputs to commercial assessment and facilitate decision making

• Collaborate in the development of proposals, business cases, contracts, and financial analyses associated with licensing projects
• Escalate key issues to the Global TA Head or Commercial BD Lead, as appropriate
• Manage business development budget items as directed by the Global TA Head
• Work with regions to develop integrated, global assessment of business development opportunities for binding term sheets
• Ensure agreement on regional forecasts and planning assumptions

Gain Appropriate Organizational Input and Seek Governance Approvals for BD Projects

• Lead key stakeholder review, development of appropriate communication documents and presentation to governance committees for endorsement

• Ensure that DAI principles are applied throughout the evaluation and approval process

• Communicate decisions of Governance Committees to key stakeholders

• Proactively communicate with stakeholders and within Commercial BD team on BD process, sharing of best practices, and lessons learned

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of marketing experience or marketing and business development and/or licensing experience.
OR
Master's degree and 7 years of marketing experience or marketing and business development and/or licensing experience
OR
Bachelor's degree and 9 years of marketing experience or marketing and business development and/or licensing experience

Preferred Qualifications:

8+ years of industry experience in the Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, or other Healthcare related field

Business Development and Licensing experience in developing commercial assessments

Solid oncology experience with additional therapeutic areas experience
Background in life sciences
Experience in leading cross-functional teams

Knowledge
• Business Development, Licensing and or Marketing/Science background
• Oncology therapeutic area knowledge, ideally with broader TA experience

• Strong understanding of drug development and commercialization processes
• Understanding of other functions relevant to the position including: Commercialization, Research & Development, Corporate Strategy & Business Development, Finance, Legal and Intellectual Property
