The College of Fine Arts and Communication invites applications for a non-tenure-track, 10-month Lecturer of Piano in the Department of Music beginning August 15, 2020. This position is a one-year contract that will carry a load of four courses (or equivalent) per semester (Fall and Spring).


Doctorate in piano (DMA or DM in piano performance, piano pedagogy, or collaborative piano) completed by June 30, 2020. Extensive teaching experience in applied piano lessons on the undergraduate and graduate student level. Evidence of an active solo and collaborative performance career. Preference given to candidates who demonstrate strong teaching skills, exceptional musicianship and a commitment to teaching at a university with a strong liberal arts foundation with a commitment to diversity, equity and
inclusion. Desired additional qualification to teach classes in the areas of music history and culture, music theory, and music education.



Teach private lessons at the undergraduate and graduate level. Class instruction could include keyboard literature, piano pedagogy, keyboard harmony and sight-reading, accompanying and class piano. Advise graduate research papers as needed. Based on departmental needs, additional teaching assignments might include classes in music education, music theory, and music history and culture. Attend keyboard juries, student recitals, and audition days, and participate in departmental recruitment activities. Actively engage in the shared governance of the university, college and department.

Additional material may be requested at a later time.


A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
