The Role:  Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a US-Based Client Relations & Inclusion Senior Manager position.  This hybrid position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County, Portland, Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica, Seattle, Washington DC or Wheeling, WV) and consideration given for 100% remote U.S. locations.

Orrick’s client relationship program helps our partners broaden and strengthen the firm’s relationships with a set of valued clients – by listening to our clients and coordinating our teams to deliver the best of Orrick. Through the program, we seek to add value for our clients, expand our relationships into new practices and geographies, support our teams in providing best-in-class client service and thought leadership, and ensure we’re creating opportunities for diverse lawyers and collaborating with clients on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) goals. 

We are continually looking for ways to innovate our approach to client relationships: hosting Relationship Reviews with core teams and collaborators across multiple teams to identify opportunities, offering tailored continuing legal education menus to our clients, working closely with the legal operations teams of our clients to find more efficient ways to complete and deliver legal services, bringing in the voice of the client, partnering with clients to host diverse 1L fellows, etc. We are also using novel approaches to tracking and sharing DEI data and metrics with our clients and identifying “micro goals” that might help all of us achieve our goal of building diverse teams. 

The Client Relations and Inclusion Senior Manager (Manager) position is a new role at Orrick. We are looking for someone who brings shared values around client service and innovation and who has an aptitude toward inspiring teamwork and collaboration. 

The Manager will collaborate closely with Orrick’s Client Relationship Program Director to develop, communicate, and execute client program strategy, support client-facing DEI initiatives, and work with firm leadership to execute on key objectives. The Manager’s success will depend on developing trusted relationships with Relationship Partners and leaders involved in our Client Program, clients, internal and external collaborators around DEI initiatives, and multiple professional staff departments across the firm, including Communications, Innovation, Talent, Marketing and BD, Sales, IT and others.

Your Responsibilities will include:

  1. Client Program Support
    • Coordinating Client Initiatives Team meetings, including scheduling and agenda 
    • Preparing for client team relationship review meetings and executing on insights coming out of these discussions 
    • Maintaining Client Program data and information platforms
    • Drafting client and relationship partner communications
    • Identifying opportunities to amplify Orrick thought leadership
    • Preparing presentations on Client Program objectives and metrics 
    • Synthesizing business research and developing client meeting preparation materials
  2. DEI 
    • Supporting multiple client-facing DEI initiatives, including: 
      1. Managing and tracking data to help us measure progress toward our diverse teams goal
      2. Managing multiple collaborations with Diversity Lab, including the: 
        1. Focused Five business development coaching program 
        2. Mansfield Client Pitch Forum
        3. Diverse Partners Directory
      3. 1L Diverse Summer Fellowship Program, and 
      4. Others
    • The Manager will work closely with leaders from Orrick’s’ Client Program, DEI, and Talent teams and external DEI partners to ensure we are advancing our objectives, supporting clients in meeting DEI goals, and working closely with our diverse team members to identify and execute on client opportunities
  3. Client Listening  
    • Proactively identifying candidates for client listening (Chairman’s Visits, Client Feedback & Insights Interviews, and panel discussions)
    • Assembling preparation materials and communications for client listening meetings
    • Tracking client listening accomplishments and opportunities
    • Supporting Orrick teams and Marketing and BD teams in ensuring execution on important client insights and effective pitch strategies 
  4. Analysis and Reporting
    • Working closely with Finance, Research & Information and other data professionals to pull and analyze client data and financial reports
    • Proactively identifying trends in client relationship growth, opportunities to introduce new teams and services, and measuring ROI on client activities and investments 
  5. Special Projects Support
    • Supporting the Client Relationship Program Director and others in managing special projects such as client-facing events, CRM implementation, and Partners Meeting
  6. Client Data Strategy 
    • Leading efforts around technology solutions to improve efficiency, tracking, collaboration, and user experience
    • Leading efforts to ensure client data is accurate and useful across firm platforms

What will you bring to the Team?  The ideal candidate for this position has experience in Professional Services Marketing, is proactive, and has a strong track record for project management and client service, communications, and collaborating across internal teams.

  • 7+ years’ experience in law firm, legal services or professional services marketing  
  • JD or MBA strongly preferred, but not required
  • Experience working with and presenting to senior leaders
  • A strong track record for project management and client service, communications, and collaborating across internal teams  
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written (both business and technical writing) and verbal communications skills 
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as exceptional attention to detail 
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks, concurrent projects and competing priorities while maintaining calmness and tactfulness in a high-volume, fast-paced and deadline-driven service organization
  • A strong sense of accountability and ability to take ownership of projects and tasks
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented approach to work, projects, interactions and client service
  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed
