The College of Liberal Arts invites applicants for a full-time 10-month tenure track faculty position, at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Studies and Community Development beginning August 2020.



Doctoral degree in family science or related field. [ABD applicants with on-going progress will be considered, if all degree requirements are complete by February 1, 2021.] Strong commitment to excellence in teaching. Demonstrated success or potential to teach family science courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Demonstrate the potential to develop a strong body of scholarship. Applicants whose work emphasizes an interest in innovative teaching for an inclusive and diverse student body are particularly encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in applicants who are committed to working in an interdisciplinary academic environment.



Faculty will be assigned an instructional workload of six (6) course units per academic year for the first year. Beginning the second year, the workload reverts back to the standard instructional workload of seven (7) course units per academic year. Undergraduate advising is part of teaching responsibilities. Scholarly research productivity and service to the department, college, and university are expected. Faculty may teach on campus and at an external location (Towson University in Northeastern Maryland). Additional duties based upon applicant qualifications and departmental needs may be assigned.


The Department:

The Department of Family Studies and Community Development provides multidisciplinary undergraduate learning opportunities through majors in family and human services and family science. In the human services major, students select one of four tracks to focus their studies; services for children and youth, human services, nonprofit leadership, or introduction to child life. The internship/service-learning program has a distinct focus on community engagement, which serve to link the academic unit to the metropolitan community while enhancing student learning. The department also offers two graduate programs, one leading to a master’s degree in Child Life, Administration, and Family Collaboration and the other leading to a master’s in Leadership in Jewish Education and Communal Services. In addition, we offer post baccalaureate certificates in Family-Professional Collaboration, Jewish Communal Services and Jewish Education.
