Overview

American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), a membership organization dedicated to the advancement of women's health care in Washington, DC, is currently seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) who under the guidance and partnership of the CEO and in concert with senior leadership, will be responsible for carrying out the strategic objectives of the organization. Through collaboration and innovation, the COO will provide leadership and management necessary to ensure proper operational infrastructure and controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to ensure operational efficiency, integrity, integration, and financial sustainability across all divisions. The COO will provide coordination for the leadership team, serve as liaison to the Executive Board to keep them abreast of programmatic strategies, and lead and manage a comprehensive array of programs and services. The COO will also help to develop and nurture relationships both internally and externally.



Responsibilities

  • Provide effective and inspiring leadership by being actively involved in all programs and services, and developing a deep knowledge of all programs
  • Monitor, track, interpret, and share external and competitive trends. Stay abreast of industry, competitive, and innovative trends that can impact the organization. Add personal insight, galvanize discussion, and debate across the organization on key strategic issues, generating idea and creative frameworks, and use a combination of facts, judgment, and personal impact to build credibility and influence outcomes. Negotiates wins across functional boundaries
    Contribute to business growth by identifying, prioritizing, and evaluating potential business opportunities
  • Work closely with leadership to create strategies across the organization that builds value, and ensure these strategies result in actionable plans. Guide end-to-end strategy development and adjust existing strategies based upon new learning and changes in the competitive environment. Develop and implement a system for tracking and reporting on the progress of the strategic plan implementation
  • Ensure that all program and services operate consistently, effectively, efficiently, and ethically within the mission and values. Identify opportunities to leverage cross-program strengths to take advantage of new opportunities and/or to address organizational challenges. Implement and lead a continuous quality improvement process throughout the program and service areas, focusing on systems and process improvements. Promote regular and ongoing opportunities for all staff to give feedback on program operations
  • Provides leadership and direction in management of financial matters. Develop and implement an annual operational budget, manage effectively within this budget, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered in conjunction with the CFO. Ensure the continued financial viability of the operational units through sound fiscal management
  • Partner with the CEO to provide ongoing oversight for the organization's interface with the Executive Board and Executive Board Affairs department. Assure a smooth functioning of the governance process. Responsibilities also include support to the audit, compensation, and nomination process and program.
  • Provide strategic oversight over membership relations to ensure the strongest possible relation with the members and fellows
  • Provide strategic oversight for the organization's administration function
  • Partner with the CEO to represent ACOG with external constituency groups
