Within Direct Sales, the Channel Director - is responsible for creating & establish strategic advantages to differentiate accounts from balance of the channel and drive consumer engagement, customer relationships, and ultimately POS.

The Channel Director -will be responsible for creating results- driven, collaborative, and customer focused team. The individual will bring a strong background in consumer products sales management and will have experience across a wide variety of grocery accounts and if possible broader trade channels, including mass and specialty. This individual will bring a strong set of skills in effective planning, negotiation, strategy alignment, joint business plan ownership, communication and will be a proven relationship manager, new business development leader, and have solid people management experience, specifically sales teams.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Create account(s) business plan goals in-line with Company Strategy:
  • New & Core Distribution
  • Category Management
  • Strategic Customer Planning - JBPs
  • Broker and Distributor Management
  • Share goals
  • Accrual spending / investment ROI
  • Account profitability
  • Service levels
  • Create the sales strategy including distribution priorities, the go to market approach and account business planning for Grocery Channels
  • Provide inspiring leadership, management, coaching and development of the team to support individual and aligned objectives and personal development
  • Have direct, collaborative relationships with key retail partners (at the buyer level) to ensure open, strategic communication
  • Evaluate opportunities to improve customer service, new customer onboarding and order process flow that lead to maximized sales
  • Strong financial acumen demonstrating a disciplined approach to analyzing and presenting sales data and ownership of results
  • Create strong sales results backed by specific plans to manage and ensure return on investment for volume, mix, share, cost, and spend
  • Create strategies related to new distribution channels and new retail customers and translate them into actionable customer initiatives
  • Recommend effective pricing, marketing and promotional programs to drive consumer demand and advance customer sales
  • Deliver on-time, reliable and accurate sales forecasts and sales reports.
  • Always understand the competitive environment, and keep the organization updated on key competitive actions
  • Establish clear performance expectations, including detailed account plans and metrics that instill a performance-oriented, results-driven culture
  • Provide opportunities to develop and build key skills with sales associates to ensure continuous personal development, process improvement and job satisfaction that support professional growth, succession planning and performance management
  • Comply with all company policies and procedure
  • People Manager - Recruit, hire, train, coach, direct, assess and motivate a diverse team of successful performers - where applicable

Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's degree or better in Business, Marketing, related field or equivalent experience
  • Extensive knowledge working with/selling to grocery
  • 10-15 years prior experience in national/regional accounts preferred with 3 + years direct selling required
  • Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway, Whole Foods, or similarly industry experience is preferred
  • Category Management experience a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to negotiate successfully and to resolve conflict
  • Demonstrated leadership in achieving outstanding sales results through others, with and without direct authority
  • Ability to analyze complex data and translate into actionable items at the strategic and tactical levels
  • Ability to deliver major strategic and initiative-based projects
  • Ability to independently operate a computer to proficiency standards in MS Office, web applications and a variety of statistical data sources
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where priorities change rapidly, and tight deadlines exist
  • Works successfully in the matrix environment, able to build positive working interfaces across dotted line reporting relationships

Physical Demands/Work Requirements:
  • Work location either in Naperville or remote
  • Ability to routinely use standard office equipment such as laptop computers, computer monitors/keyboards, photocopiers and telephones
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear
  • 60%+ travel required
