The Business Performance Senior Manager, based out of our global headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA supports critical change initiatives for the Research and Development (R&D) organization. The Senior Manager will report to a Business Performance Director in R&D Transformation.

The R&D Transformation Office partners with the R&D leadership and subject matter experts to diagnose pain points, co-create solutions and successfully execute the highest priority efforts to enable growth and improve productivity across R&D. Areas of transformation include strategy, capability building, technology and process improvements, and culture change.

The Senior Manager will be a liaison for transformation initiatives. He/she will gather, analyze, and synthesize cross-functional information across a variety of sources to turn unstructured business issues and requests into appropriate action plans and projects that result in high quality, meaningful and actionable deliverables. They will also provide reports and presentations that clearly summarize status, issues, implications and recommendations to key stakeholders to inform and communicate decision making. In addition, the Sr Manager may be asked to lead and/or participate in cross-functional projects related to R&D and Amgen transformation, such as the Amgen BeiGene Collaboration. Successful candidates will spend ~18-30 months working on a portfolio initiatives before transitioning into R&D leadership roles, or other areas of the business.

A Business Performance Senior Manager liaison is responsible to
  • Provide expertise in transformation methodologies appropriate for the objective
  • Be a thought partner to transformation team leaders
  • Provide planning and logistical support
  • Ensure transformation project success, by managing risks, removing roadblocks, and appropriately and quickly escalating issues
  • Plan and facilitate workshops and governance discussions, objectively
  • Drive the development and evolution of the initiative plan and timely execution of initiative milestones
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders; proactively seek buy-in and providing on-going support to address business needs
  • Constructively challenge teams by providing disconfirming information and encouraging innovative problem solving
  • Adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing and fast-moving environment


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and2 years of Scientific and/or Operations and/or Business experience

OR

Master's degree and 4 years of Scientific and/or Operations and/or Business experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and6 years of Scientific and/or Operations and/or Business experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of Scientific and/or Operations and/or Business experience

OR

High school diploma / GED & 12 years of Scientific and/or Operations and/or Business experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree or strong demonstration of equivalent combination of relevant educational and professional training experience in leading cross-functional teams
  • 5+ years' of experience in B iotechnology / Pharmaceutical industry, particularly in Research and Development
  • 6+ years' of experience in a cross-functional business operations or project management role
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to storyline and prepare executive-level discussion documents
  • Excellent conceptual problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems, pragmatically scope problem solving approach, and manage execution
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytic skills
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to influence different styles
  • Strong written/oral communication skills and executive presence across functions and across different levels of leadership
  • Drug Development knowledge with basic to strong understanding of activities within Research, Preclinical and Clinical Development, Medical and Regulatory
  • Independent, motivated, team member with experience in a matrix environment
