Amgen is seeking a Business Development Manager at its main headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA to join the Digital Health & Innovation (DH&I) organization. The Manager will report directly to the DH&I Strategy and Corporate Integration Lead.

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for developing insights around and communicating the team's mission, projects, and milestones. The Incumbent will be responsible for driving the team's internal and external engagement strategies. Expected tangible results from the Manager include establishing strategic relationships by executing collaborative agreements in partnership with Amgen's legal and Compliance groups and managing established relationships. The Manager may also involve engaging with external corporate entities to source, evaluate and negotiate agreements to access innovative technologies in support of Amgen's overall Digital Health & Innovation strategy.

Key responsibilities of the Business Development Manager include:

Idea Generation/Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including cross functional Amgen teams as well as digital health ecosystem to understand their needs
  • Generates insights through Ad Boards, roundtables and one-to-one meetings, etc.
  • Coordinates across cross functional team to analyze therapeutic area priorities, brand strategy and external digital health environment
  • Consults with relevant internal stakeholders to gather customer insights and needs
  • Ensures interactions are in compliance with policies, procedures, methodologies and best practices
  • Prepares and drives internal and external engagement plan to ensure all partners are aligned to key objectives, plans, and milestones
  • Creates internal & external understanding around DH&I projects through succinct summaries and published pieces


Business Planning:
  • Manages cross-functional team meetings
  • Identifies, escalates, and monitors resolution of issues & action items
  • Leads execution of cross-functional strategies in consultation with key stakeholders
  • Drives successful and timely completion of cross-functional deliverables
  • Drives effective decision making within the team, including communication of decisions to appropriate stakeholders


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 2 years of Project Management experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Project Management experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of Project Management experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Project Management experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in biotech/pharma/technology business development and/or drug development
  • Strong scientific, organizational, communication, and project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a record of key accomplishments
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Demonstrated success in scientific and/or technology communications
  • Effective communication skills pertaining to scientific and business development
  • The ability to foresee and solve problems, and prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Strong team player with proven ability to work in teams
  • Ability to interface effectively with all-levels of staff across differing functional expertise within the organization, including Commercial, Legal, CMC, and Finance
  • Demonstrated ability to create and build relationships with internal and external parties
  • Professional demeanor with strong decision-making skills
  • The ability to work independently as well as coordinate and guide large cross functional teams
