Under general supervision of the Buildings and Grounds Manager. Responsible for the supervision, and coordination of work performed by personnel in the Facilities management Division, Buildings and Grounds Section. Responsible for overall building maintenance, carpentry, and painting of all college facilities, and assist in management of contract administrative functions related to these areas.



  • Provide supervision for the skilled labor incidental to and necessary for the operation of the Buildings and Grounds Section of the college. Directly supervises the buildings staff of carpenters and painters and coordinates work with the campus Locksmith, Grounds supervisor, and department project managers.
  • Considerable knowledge in all phases of commerical carpentry, drywall construction, flooring, finishes, plumbing, building envelopes, painting, doors, door hardware, reading blueprints, preventative maintenance and construction project management.
  • Assists in creating, maintaining, and coordinating the Carpet Replacement Program for the main campus and satellite facilities.
  • Assists in creation and implementation of fiscal year operations and maintenance budgets and appropriate project budgets.
  • Devises, schedules and implements preventive maintenance in areas of, building envelopes, painting, finishes, door hardware and other building systems to ensure proper condition and function of facilities and to reduce unscheduled maintenance. Assigns appropriate staff, coordinates contractors, and supervises the repair of all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance for the buildings section.
  • Schedules work with contractors/vendors; acts as owner representative on projects involving contractors/vendor; acts as owner representative on projects involving contractors/vendors and manages projects so that projects will be completed on time and within the established budget while still maintaining quality.
  • Leads, trains, supervises, coaches and evaluates staff to include yearly personnel evaluations.
  • Recommends personnel actions such as hiring, promotion, transfer, discharge and disciplinary action.
  • Inspects completed work to determine compliance with current code and industry/professional standards along with college standards.
  • Prepares material lists, labor and material cost estimates for repair and project work. Have the ability to prepare scopes of work, specifications and secure quotations from vendors and outside contractors.
  • Submits appropriate maintenance reports, operational reports and schedules to Buildings and Grounds Manager as required.
  • Required to report to work during emergency conditions and may be assigned to report at a different time and location and to perform different duties as necessary.
  • Performs work safely in accordance with department safety procedures and the College of DuPage safety program. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work condition or practice to supervisor. Trains employees on the use of the equipment as well as on safety standards and policies.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Proficiency in spoken English. Experience with Project Management software and computerized maintenance management systems. Journeyman Carpenter or trades school certificate.</span></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 14px;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><strong>EDUCATION:</strong> Associate's Degree. All hand and power tools common to the carpentry trade. Examples: saws, skill saws, planers, sanders, drills, routers, sharpeners.</span></span></p> <br /><br /> <p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: 14px;">Required to be available at all times in emergency or snow related situations. Must be able to lift 50+ pounds. Must be able to bend, reach, work on hands and knees is necessary. Usually good conditions, but could be exposed to harsh weather and long hours in emergency situations. Position requires extensive walking and the ability to climb stairs and ladders. Required uniforms supplied by the College of DuPage.
