Are you considering working for a year before graduate school or before making a career commitment? The Amherst Biology Fellow is a "green dean" position for a recent Amherst graduate working out of the Moss Quantitative Center. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

We seek applications from current Amherst seniors and recent alumni who would be interested in providing support for students in the introductory Biology courses.

Responsibilities of the Biology Fellow will include the following:
  • Providing support, in the form of team-based learning sections, drop-in tutoring, individual tutoring, weekly help sessions for Biology 191; Depending on enrollment in Biology 191, the Biology Fellow could provide support for additional Biology or Biology related courses, which would depend on the background of the applicant.
  • Coordinating with faculty members teaching those courses;
  • Working with a diverse set of student groups in the sciences to build community among students studying Biological sciences at Amherst;
  • Working with the Amherst Summer Science Program to mentor first-generation/low-income student in the Biology classes of SSP;

This position is a great opportunity to make a difference for students in Biology and to have an impact on important issues in an Amherst education. Applicants should have a strong interest in science education and a good relationship with the Department of Biology. The Q Fellow should be self-directed, enthusiastic and enjoy working with people. The Fellow will need to be comfortable working closely with both faculty and students and bring a commitment to working within a diverse community.

This is a twelve-month position running from July 2020 through June 2021.
