We are searching for a talented, curious, and self-motivated engineer to join ourautomationteam in building the most advanced production-scale synthetic biology platform on the planet. R&D at Amyris is a highly multidisciplinary effort, where we need brilliant contributions from all areas of life sciences & engineering disciplines to take projects from concept to market.

Every aspect of our work is facilitated and accelerated by software and hardware automation, from hacking directly DNA in the lab to full scale factory production. Our automation tooling integrates the activities of scientists, engineers, and automation to optimize genetic design and laboratory process.

Among the tools we have developed are a CAD/CAM system for genetic engineering: a compiler toolchain whose target is life itself. Our stack physically integrates high level genetic modules into microbial hosts. We also derive novel strains through random mutagenesis and directed evolution. We then subject these experimental organisms to high throughput performance screening on large integrated systems.

Responsibilities
    • Designing & scriptingautomated workflows on large integrated robotic systems&on robotic liquid handlers.
    • Working collaboratively with our scientistsand software engineersto buildefficientautomatedlaboratory workflows in support of genomics, analytical chemistry, fermentation, and high throughput screening.
    • Creating and executing maintenance protocols and calibration routinesfor robotic peripherals.
    • DOEand execution of robotic system qualifications.
    • Implementing real time quality control measures into automated systems to track liquid handlingperformance, anddetect/predict failure events.
    • Acting as an advocate and ambassador for the Automation team.


Qualifications
    • BS/MSinascientificor engineeringdiscipline. Ideally with 5+ years of hands onlaboratory automationexperience and/or method development on integrated systems.
    • Experience working with customers (internal or external) and ability to work collaboratively with them to identify their needs.
    • Directexperience with requirements gathering and writing DOE and/or functional design specifications for robotic systems.
    • Expert ability to create, validate, optimizeand maintain liquid handling processes on robotic workstations is a plus.
    • Direct experience in converting bench top or semi-automated into fully automatedprocesses.
    • Experience with programming automated systems(Beckman FX/NX,AgilentVWorks,BioseroGreen Button Go,DynamicDevices Method Manager).
    • Experience with relevant software languages such as python,C++, C#, F#,SQLetc.
    • Understanding of relational databases including design of data models and facility with SQL.
    • Experience withtheintegration of laboratory equipment to laboratory information systems (LIMS)
    • Energetic and self-motivated. Able to work independentlyon projectsand as part of a team
