The Genome Analysis Unit group at Amgen South San Francisco (ASF) is seeking a highly enthusiastic and motivated individual for the position of Associate Scientist. The successful candidate will work in the lab, under supervision, and collaborate with a team of committed scientists to perform cell-based assays and molecular genetic analysis to help discover, develop and validate Amgen's robust drug discovery pipeline.

Position Responsibilities

Performing RNA and DNA extraction from mammalian cell lines and tissues, related quantitative PCR/ddPCR, and NGS sample preparation

Performing mammalian cell line maintenance and cell-based molecular biology and biochemical assays

Execute and document experimental plans and laboratory procedures in a timely manner and with great attention to detail

Ability to trouble shoot and work independently on data analysis

Operate, maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment

Basic Qualifications

Master's degree and 2 years of Scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

Master's or bachelor's degree in molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, biochemistry or a closely related field

Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of scientific experience or Master's degree with 4+ years of scientific experience as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a biopharmaceutical setting

Hands-on experience with cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology techniques, especially mammalian cell culture technique

Experience performing experiments, such as RNA, DNA extraction, PCR, cloning

Hand-on experience in NGS sample preparation

Critical thinker with an attention to detail

Highly motivated, creative and collaborative

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, proficient in Word, Powerpoint and Excel

Comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and able to adjust accordingly based upon changing priorities
