Amgen's Therapeutic Discovery organization is seeking a highly motivated and capable individual to join the Research Materials Management group in the Thousand Oaks CA research site. In this role you will be a bench scientist that contributes hands-on to our compound management efforts in support of Amgen's drug discovery pipeline. The position includes monitoring automation equipment to ensure accurate operating characteristics, perform user serviceable repairs, robotics scripting, and routine QC of lab equipment.

Position Responsibilities

Lab automation support
  • First line of support for automation and software used in liquid order processing (Tecan, Agilent, and REMP automation systems, controlled by Mosaic software)
  • Scheduled QC of liquid handling equipment following established SOP
  • Analysis and reporting of instrument and vendor performance over time
  • Management of vendor interaction when repairs or preventative maintenance required


Liquid order fulfillment
  • Process liquid substance requests daily
  • Serve as primary contact for resolving and investigating issues


Serve as trained backup for critical lab processes
  • Solids request processing
  • Biologics request processing
  • Preparation of shipping manifests for domestic and international shipments


Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

OR

Associate's degree and 4 years of scientific experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 6 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, engineering or related discipline
  • 2+ years of lab experience
  • Experience with or coursework in a programming language like Python, R, or SQL
  • Experience operating liquid handling automation from Tecan and Agilent (or similar)
  • Ability to build, prioritize, and coordinate work plans and adhere to timelines
  • Excellence in communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, flexibility, and a positive attitude
