Position Purpose

Reporting to the Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations, this position will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundations and corporations for major gifts in support of the goals and priorities of the Geisel School of Medicine and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health. Works closely with development leadership, scientists, faculty, and physicians to clarify and articulate fundraising goals. Helps researchers advance basic science, clinical, and translational research priorities by assisting with proposal development and submission. Manages a portfolio of major institutional funders and is responsible for meeting a series of annual associated performance metrics.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities

Identification, Cultivation and Solicitation - 70%

  • Manages a portfolio of foundation and corporate prospects through the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship cycles. Meets associated performance metrics.
  • Participates in formulating strategies and approaches, including briefings and other working materials, for senior officers, faculty, and researchers involved in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporations and foundations.
  • Works independently and in close collaboration with Geisel leadership, faculty, and Director in development of proposals, project descriptions, case statements, and informal working materials.
  • In collaboration with the Director, organizes and coordinates corporate and foundation meetings, campus visits, and forums.

Program Management - 30%

  • Maintains knowledge of initiatives, current programs, and other funding opportunities from corporations and foundations.
  • Meets with faculty and physicians at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health and the Geisel School of Medicine to gain knowledge about their research interests and expertise, identify their funding needs, and develop portfolios of researcher-specific funding opportunities.
  • Works with faculty and clinicians to develop and submit proposals.
  • Follows institutional protocol for proposal submission via Office of Sponsored Projects (Dartmouth) and Sponsored Projects Administration (D-HH).
  • Uses office systems to track all activity with researchers and foundations/corporations.
  • Ensures appropriate recognition and stewardship of corporate and foundation donors. Works in tandem with stewardship office to determine nature of action(s) required and timely completion.
  • Acquires and evaluates information, recognizes significant and emerging trends among foundations and corporations.
