Job Description Summary
The Associate Director is a member of the Financial Assistance senior management team, working with the director to plan and direct the daily operations of the Office of Financial Assistance. Responsible for directing and managing the continuing student renewal financial aid process and serving as the financial aid liaison to the Athletics department. The core function of the position requires the review of financial aid applications using both Federal and Institutional Methodology and effective management of a caseload of approximately 10-15% of aid applicants. The Associate Director also supervises three staff members, including the manager of Student Employment.

Essential Duties
  • Manage a caseload of 10-15% of aid applicants (approximately 350 - 500 families) in all aspects of financial aid including initial inquiries, application review, awarding, appeal, counseling, etc.
  • Ability to provide proactive customer service is essential.
  • Manage the daily and weekly priorities of three staff members, provide training, mentoring, and periodic performance evaluations.
  • Lead the continuing student financial aid renewal process, including the monitoring of student Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • Provide the OFA staff with target goals and key deadlines and monitor progress to ensure that renewal awards are prepared prior to important billing dates.
  • Liaison to the Athletics Department for the National Letter of Intent process working with Undergraduate Admissions and Athletics in the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Oversee general athletic financial aid awards and renewal awards in compliance with Bentley policies and NCAA regulations.
  • Provide informational resources to coaches through the Associate Director of Athletics.
  • Represent the financial aid office at various admission functions such as Open House and Accepted Students Day.
  • Travel to recruiting events on occasion.

Other Duties
  • Responsible for ensuring institutional adherence to Federal Work Study regulations and Bentley student employment guidelines and will make recommendations for service improvements.
  • Represent the OFA internally through ad hoc committee work and cross-divisional initiatives.
  • Represent Bentley externally at several Undergraduate Admission functions.
  • Prepare periodic and annual reports related to areas of responsibility.
  • Direct and assist other staff members with office projects with the goal of cross training and expanding staff knowledge of all areas of financial aid.
  • Special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of progressive experience in financial aid administration.
  • Technical experience including basic report queries and familiarity with financial aid software and Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with PowerFAIDs and/or Workday is desirable, but not required.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted United States driver's license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley's insurance carrier.

Work Environment
  • Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work.
  • Travel-related work is infrequent.
  • However, overtime work is expected during peak periods and attendance at two annual admission events is required.
