Position Purpose

The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) Affairs Office provides central oversight for its entire program in medical education. This office is responsible for fiscal and administrative oversight, accreditation, preclinical and clinical curriculum, admissions office, learning support and student accessibility, registrar's office, student affairs and student services, and the MD-based dual degree programs. The UME Affairs Office also collaborates closely with the Department of Medical Education and the Biomedical Libraries.

The Associate Dean for Medical Education Administration works under the direction of the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education and in close collaboration with the UME Affairs Operations Director to ensure that all UME activities and programs are adequately supported and comport with all institutional and LCME accreditation requirements.

Key Accountabilities

Leadership and Accreditation Responsibilities:

• Partners with the SADME and other UME academic leaders to develop short-term operational plans and longer term strategic planning for the UME program.
• Works with the SADME and Operations Director to provide fiscal oversight and allocate budgeted resources across UME Affairs and the UME program, more broadly.
• Collaborates with the SADME on the strategic planning and goal setting for UME Affairs.
• Partners with the SADME to continuously review and ensure that all LCME accreditation standards are maintained at Geisel.
• Working under the SADME , oversees and coordinates the preparation of all LCME accreditation and school reports.
• Provides oversight and guidance to the curriculum evaluation office
• Lead and guide others in scholarly work (presentations, publications) from curriculum evaluation and from other medical education projects
• Represents UME Affairs, and the UME program more broadly, to faculty, students, alumni, applicants, and diverse groups through meetings and memberships on committees and task forces.
• Critically and continuously evaluates processes within UME Affairs. Partners with UME academic leadership to provide comparable assessment(s) of all aspects of the UME program.
• Collaborates with the Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion to ensure that Geisel's commitment to its core value to include efforts to create, enhance, and participate in a community of respect, equity, and inclusion in all units.
• Partners with the SADME and other UME academic leaders to unify the organizational units under UME Affairs and ensure support of services and programs across the UME program.
• Oversees the directors of the UME organizational units to provide vision, consistency, and administrative oversight

Processes and Program Responsibilities:

• Responsible for oversight of the Registrar's Office for UME . Works with the Registrar to ensure the processes therein provide robust and compliant support for UME students, faculty, and alumni.
• Collaborates with the Associate Deans for Preclinical and Clinical Education for oversight and management of the preclinical and clinical education offices.
• Oversees and advises the Director of the Leaning Support and Student Accessibility Services program to provide guidance for these programs.
• In conjunction with general LCME responsibilities, provides oversight of the UME evaluation and assessment program(s).
• Works with the SADME and the Chair of the Department of Medical Education at Geisel to assess and further develop and enhance the educational research and continuous curriculum improvement capacity at Geisel.
• Collaborates with the SADME and dual-degree program directors in the oversight, management and integration of the affiliated ( UME ) dual degree programs.
