Position Summary:

The Chicago Medical School (CMS) at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS) invites applications for an Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs who will be charged with providing oversight and leadership for the management of clinical affairs, ensuring all needs are met to maintain clinical rotation sites for its students. This individual will also ensure all accreditation requirements associated with clinical training are followed.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop, establish, and oversee best practices for clinical education of medical students
  • Work to develop new clinical rotation sites and maintain existing partnerships
  • Build relationships across regions to increase CMS/RFUMS footprint and impact
  • Develop and maintain good business relationships with affiliated hospitals, health systems and clinics providing education for students
  • Contribute to building strong relationships with stakeholders and constituents and be involved in the identification and stewardship of affiliate sites
  • In collaboration with the Executive Chair of the Clinical Sciences Department provide evaluations and ultimate oversight of Site and Clerkship directors, and Discipline Chairs
  • Build alliances with other faculty delivering clinical education to our students
  • Engage at a national level with professional organizations relevant to medical education
  • Visit affiliate locations on a scheduled basis (at least annually) to meet with clinical Chairs, Site and Clerkship Directors and key clinical faculty to obtain feedback on student performance in the clinical setting
  • Establish a coordinated approach to create sustainable resources including sites and preceptors to support clinical training
  • Identify health system partners to sponsor and establish regional campuses and increase the quality and quantity of clinical training
  • Create new opportunities in the community for students to increase the reach and impact of CMS
  • Meet with and maintain communication with affiliate sites to determine and incorporate new value-added roles for students.
  • Assist in the identification, recruitment, and preparation of appropriate clinicians to serve as faculty.
  • Develop and manage policies and ensure their regular implementation and integration across all teaching sites.
  • Create mutually shared goals with internal and external partners.
  • Review with the Office of the Dean the budget related to clinical affiliates and preceptors.
  • Oversee all affiliate contracts including MOU's with affiliated hospitals, health systems and sites for CMS
  • Oversee internal audit processes and procedures regarding current affiliate contracts.
  • Review all contracts, confirm they clearly state financial obligations, address relevant regulatory and compliance concerns, and assess risks
  • Ensure that needs and expectations of clinical sites are managed in accordance with the affiliation agreements arranged between the sites and the school, and are in keeping with accreditation requirements
  • Apply continuous quality leadership principles to direct all processes associated with clinical education
  • Participate in preparation for and conduct of LCME accreditation site visits
  • Participate in committees, strategic planning retreats, etc. for CMS and RFUMS
  • Other duties as assigned by the CMS Dean.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Doctor of Medicine MD, or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine DO, with Board Certification in their specialty
  • 5 years: experience in clinical education development and delivery
  • 5 years: experience in medical education administration
  • Experience with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and/or other accrediting bodies
  • Proven experience in the management of multiple initiatives and multiple sites
  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must have a passion for medical education
  • Knowledge of and skills related to effective leadership of clinicians
  • Demonstrated creative problem solver with the ability to innovate and build consensus around proposed solutions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in the use of social networking technology
  • Proven ability to work as a partner with a variety of constituents
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to advocate for change

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Served in a leadership role for at least 2 years
