NYCEDC's Industry Initiatives department
develops and implements public-private partnerships to keep New York City's economy thriving, diverse, and inclusive. Our initiatives identify new opportunities and address specific challenges within emerging and anchor industries to ensure that New York City remains a global capital for innovation.

Reporting to the Vice President of Cybersecurity and Fintech portfolio, the Assistant Vice President (AVP), Cyber NYC will oversee a newly created $100 million portfolio of public-private partnerships developed to catalyze and grow a cybersecurity industry ecosystem in NYC [link]. Cyber NYC is a highly visible portfolio announced by the Mayor in the New York Works Report in July 2017 [link], a top priority for NYCEDC that has received significant media coverage.

Your Role: The AVP, Cyber NYC will work closely with NYCEDC colleagues as well as external industry stakeholders to lead and support the implementation of a strategically planned portfolio of Cyber NYC initiatives that includes a global incubator, growth-stage startup accelerator, workforce programs, and an academic innovation program.

The AVP will cultivate and manage working relationships with stakeholders across the academic, corporate, entrepreneurial and startup, and VC communities. The AVP will also manage cross-functional project teams to drive and deliver on key project milestones and outcomes. Specific tasks may include managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholders; leading and organizing high profile meetings and networking at industry events; and producing top quality presentations and quantitative and qualitative research.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage and oversee the Cyber NYC portfolio: Ensure project milestones, outcomes and objectives are achieved and communicated to appropriate stakeholders by managing cross-departmental teams and multiple partnerships
  • Offer expertise in cybersecurity and develop a comprehensive understanding of economic development opportunities in these areas
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders and serve as a point person for the Cyber NYC initiative with the VP
  • Leverage exceptional problem-solving skills to identify key issues/questions, develop and ensure follow through on comprehensive work plans (project scope, timelines, required analyses, individual responsibilities, etc.)
  • Create and deliver presentations that effectively communicate key project findings and recommendations to various audiences (e.g., senior EDC staff, City Hall staff, partner agencies, external stakeholders, etc.)
  • Conduct or oversee primary and secondary research, data gathering and analysis
  • Identifies opportunities for new program areas and leads new program ideation
  • Contribute to personal and team development
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • MBA or graduate degree strongly preferred
  • Expertise and deep knowledge of the cybersecurity sector (direct work experience in cybersecurity a big plus)
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience (e.g., management consulting firm, investment banking, strategic planning, program design and execution, partnership management) including strong experience managing teams, operating an organization, and directly interfacing with senior executives at top global corporates, VCs, and entrepreneurs
  • Demonstrated track record of leading, managing, and executing complex initiatives at top-tier organizations
  • Deep understanding of the corporate business world and early stage innovation / startups / VCs
  • Outstanding relationship management, communications (written and verbal) and presentations skills
  • Demonstrated track record of developing and maintaining productive working relationships with internal and external clients and parties
  • Proven experience directly interfacing with senior level executives without oversight
  • Ability to build client-ready presentation materials, communication materials and financial models
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills, comfort building financial models, managing budgets, and conducting ROI analysis, and skill working with data sets
  • Ability to look strategically at the big picture and search for insightful, creative solutions
  • Comfort interfacing with senior officials and leaders in both the public and private sectors
  • New York City residency (required within 180 days of hire)
