With specific direction from Facilities Manager, the Facilities Supervisor will assist in leading the onsite maintenance, janitorial duties and grounds maintenance around buildings and trails. This position will be responsible for recruiting, training, and scheduling housekeeping, grounds and trail staff. Daily work ranges from oversight of pest control, cleaning bathrooms, lobbies, and public spaces to preparing areas for events, including staging equipment needed for such events; work will also include assisting in facility repair. Execute all activities with the highest standards for safety, customer service, and keeping with the Nature Centers Mission, Values, and Principles.


Essential Job Responsibilities


  • Ensure all facilities and grounds are clean and safe

  • General upkeep and repair of buildings, structures and vehicles

  • OSHA compliance when carrying out duties

  • Ensure safe use of all chemical product and maintain SDS (MSDS) documentation.

  • Assess general equipment replacement needs based on lifespan assessments


  • Manage a team of full and part-time housekeeping, grounds and trail staff including hiring, training and performance evaluations

  • Utilize scheduling software

  • Provide updated reports to Facilities Manager and Director of Operations & Visitor Engagement

Additional Job Responsibilities

  • VOLUNTEERS: Maintain positive working relationships with all volunteers and direct work as needed.

  • SPECIAL EVENTS: Provides support for special community/fundraising events as needed. These events may fall after hours or on weekends.

  • Safety equipment including eye and ear protection and respirator masks, with a regular exposure to commercial cleaning products, paints, stains and other products necessary to complete routine cleaning.

  • Minimum of 3 years in facility maintenance including

    • Sanitation experience-including office and bathroom cleaning protocols.  Knowledge and use of green chemical products highly desirable.

    • Working knowledge of OSHA and safety requirements

    • Experience maintaining structures

    • Ability to develop PM schedules

    • Ability to assess general equipment replacement needs based on lifespan assessments

    • Previously managed 3 or more staff

  • Experience in residential or commercial construction with ability to read and follow blueprints

  • Must have verifiable advanced experience in 2 or more of the following

    • Carpentry

    • Electrical

    • Plumbing

    • HVAC

  • Pest control experience highly desirable

  • Grounds keeping and small equipment operation abilities highly desirable

  • Must have computer skills beyond basic and the ability to learn new or proprietary software


Education and Competencies:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent

  • The ability to work well on a team, but flexibility to work independently with little supervision.


  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Be able to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and guests

  • Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information

  • Ability to work indoors and out in all weather and temperature extremes

  • Possess a valid drivers license

  • Must pass a criminal background check

  • Punctuality and dependability a must

  • Must be available evenings and weekends

  • Commitment and ability to articulate The Nature Centers mission

  • Flexibility will be essential and other duties may be assigned as available

  • Collaborative working style

  • A sense of humor, creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit

  • General interest in nature and the environment

Computer Skills:

  • Must be able to navigate basic scheduling and email software.

  • Microsoft Excel experience preferred

Work Environment:

  • Majority of work will be performed outdoors, sometimes in uncomfortable weather including high heat, humidity and rain.

  • Some work is performed indoors in an office environment and outdoors in nature preserve and farm environments.

  • Local travel may be required including to LBFT in Goshen. When a CNC vehicle is not available, the use of personal vehicle (reimbursed at IRS recommended rate) may be needed for CNC business.
