Assembly Trainee

JOB SUMMARY:


Learns methods and processes associated with assembly and repair of valves.  Observes and follows the direction of more senior assembly personnel while assembling product. Will be exposed to all six product lines. Works safely to prevent on-the-job injuries by following all safety regulations. Active participant in Lean, continuous improvement and 5S activities.


         





















PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • On-the-Job Training

    • Assembly and repair of valves, traps, and instruments involving a variety of parts, and fittings.  Aligning/adjusting of assembled valves.

    • May perform shipping and general machining such as hand drilling and sandblasting.

    • Safety training and Lean Training.

    • Learn to utilize Lean concepts in performing work efficiently.

    • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.






  • Housekeeping

    • Cleans and maintains work area to provide a safe and organized work environment.






  • Lean Manufacturing Initiatives

    • Will embrace Richards Industries Lean/Continuous Improvement ideas and vision

    • Will follow 5s activities by  cleaning work areas daily to ensure optimal performance in all job functions

    • Keeps work area organized at all times.  This includes but not limited to storage drawers/cabinets, along with all personal items.

    • Will participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives after formal in house training. 

    • Employees are encouraged to submit improvement ideas by utilizing the Orange Card Suggestion Program.

    • Must participate in Lean training



  • Meeting Attendance

    •   Attends all employee meetings.

    •   Attends all required training, including Lean Training.

CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS:



  1. Success Factor #1



S - Greater than 93% first pass defect.


O - Time on the job, exposure to the product, training with lead person.


A - Develop an understanding of the assembly procedures, and apply to product, hands-on training.


R - Within the first 6 months, assembler should be able to assemble standard product offering with an acceptable first pass defect rate on standard product.



  1. Success Factor #2



S - Attendance and adherence to policy less than three points for a 12-month period.


O Getting to work on time and completing assigned shift and appointments.


A Utilize vacation / personal days and schedule personal appointments around working hours.


R Acceptable attendance record as well as adherence to policies.    



  1. Success Factor #3



S Housekeeping (5S) Audit Score of 85% or better.


O Not having proper tools to clean and organize area.  Not having the discipline to make sure work area is clean everyday and all items are in the proper location.  Proper 5S training and expectations.


A Every item has a place and every item in its place.  All drawers / bins labeled clearly.  Make sure work area is swept, clean and neat daily.


R 5S scores of 85% or better.



  1. Success Factor #4



S On-time shipment of order 98%.


O Lack of productivity, poor attendance and poor quality.


A Be on time to work every day.  Review schedules and prioritize work accordingly.  Understand priorities and follow-up to meet scheduled load to meet or exceed 98% on-time shipments.


R Maintain 98% plus on-time shipments within your control.


 

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE



  • High school diploma or equivalent.



 


LICENSES, CREDENTIALS, CERTIFICATIONS



  • N/A



                              


SKILLS, SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES



  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Knowledge/awareness of general safety procedures.

  • Understanding of hand tools.



                                                   


PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS



  • Capable of handling 50 lb. to 200 lb. valve bodies with the assistance of hand trucks, lifts, conveyors and hoists.

  • The ability to stand for long periods up to eight or more hours at a time.

  • Ability to work weekends and overtime when scheduled.

  • Must adhere to all safety policies, including safety glasses while in shop area.
