The role

Amgen is seeking an Accounting Manager who will play a key role in Accounting Operations Team located in Puerto Rico. This highly motivated individual will be primarily responsible for developing and executing financial analysis and business analytics for a new product in our portfolio. The Accounting Manager will provide vital global support for cross-functional financial, analytical and reporting, inventory and cost accounting, and intercompany accounting. The Accounting Manager will work also with the reconciliation of all activities linked with the business area. This role will interact with a wide range of leadership and staff across Amgen. The position will report to the Sr Manager Accounting.

The department

The Accounting team oversees the financial planning, reporting, and analysis for Amgen's Operations area, which is responsible for Amgen's manufacturing activities. The team settles cost of operations and establishes standard costs, analyzes results, monitors variances and identifies trends to provide advice to management for decision-making. We are a highly motivated team with strong eye for business and dedication to continuous improvement.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Consolidate and report global Intercompany sales and cost of sales
  • Work closely with Tax Transfer Pricing and Treasury to help execute Amgen's transfer pricing strategy
  • Responsible for the Profit in Inventory Elimination for the new Product
  • Identify and influence key partners across Finance that are impacted by any changes because of evolving Intercompany and Contract Manufacturer agreements
  • Calculate and record Intercompany transactions for physical vs. financial activities
  • Support quarterly SOX process certification by compiling, sampling and reviewing control documentation
  • Monitor calculate and record inventory movements
  • Perform standard Cost roll up for Contract Manufacturer and Amgen Affiliates
  • Actively support Amgen key business initiatives that impact Global Accounting Operations processes
  • Perform all assigned monthly accounting close activities including variance analysis, balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries
  • Interact with Amgen senior and mid-level management
  • Exercise sound judgment, initiative, and a strong internal control focus in handling business issues of significance to Corporate Accounting
  • Actively seek opportunities to streamline assigned processes and cross-train with peers
  • Assist in project management activities and ad hoc analysis as required


Basic Qualifications

Master's degree and 2 years of experience in general accounting

or

Bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience in general accounting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent computer skills including spreadsheet software
  • Experience in Finance and, or Accounting experience in a regulated industry
  • Accounting and/or Finance degree
  • Excellent data analysis skills and partnership oriented
  • Good financial business understanding
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to work in a cross-functional team environment
  • Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills (English and Spanish)
  • Ability to demonstrate judgment and make appropriate recommendations
  • Experience in driving and implementing change, leading outsource partner relationship and with financial system implementation
  • Experience in US GAAP and Foreign Currency transaction accounting and understanding concepts to translate into mentorship for financial reporting
  • Experience in other functional accounting areas (i.e. cash, investments)
  • Detail orientated; strong business analytical skills
  • Strong systems skills - broad of SAP
  • Positive attitude and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and lead multiple deliverables
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; influence at all levels, functions and geographies
